International Appointments / Re: UEFA Europa League 2025/2026
« on: Tue 27 Jan 2026 17:02 »
Surprised there is only var involvement for the english contingent.
I guess that with only Oliver in the champions league final group games it probably says that our officials are not in favour with uefa.
I guess the pgmol going their own way on guidelines and interpretations doesnt help either.
Idk about that. Kavanagh got a nice few games in UCL considering he was only promoted a few weeks ago.
Taylor had a decent game last week and there is no elites in Europa league this week so brooks was only option and he had a game last week.

There are at least 4 referees with games this matchday that had games the previous matchday in the champions league so it doesnt preclude our officials from getting games on consecutive matchdays.

General Discussion / Re: M OLIVER - Fulham v Brighton.
« on: Mon 26 Jan 2026 23:13 »

I always assumed Seagull was a Brighton correspondent on this Forum but I may well be mistaken.

hi,

a natural assumption, but then again, maybe he's an ornithologist

great display be MO

regards,

gnr

then again, maybe s/he just likes nicking other people's chips !

The seagulls in Brighton and my home town of Eastbourne are vicious little buggers… any sniff of food being consumed in the open and they will literally fly at you from behind and snatch it.

Yes always best to face up to a seagull, dont allow a tackle from behind.

Had plenty of run ins with them at Scarbados in the summer.

Congratulations to all appointed to the second legs of efl cup semis.

Fully deserved appointments for all.

Guess the final will be between Gillett, Jones and England.

I shall be at the Amex on Saturday as Mrs Thing is an Everton fan… and finally get to see Kavanagh in the flesh.

Are you on purple watch again?

Once again, I will bring up Michael Oliver’s appointments this time. It just seems silly to appoint him Saturday, and with the PGMO knowing he has a champions league appointment, then give him another Saturday game. Just seems poor man management to me.

I would take the opposite view and say if you are in a good run of form you would want to be in the middle at every opportunity. I am sure Mr Oliver would be telling his employers if he felt he needed a break.

Hey Mr Royalty, hope you've washed that lush purple shirt ready for the weekend!

It might come out a different colour in the wash but i doubt it will be the rag unless the pgmol ask Wolves to play in their away strip.

8
I wonder if we have all been mislead and it is guidance from the pgmol to referees in the english competitions to award the penalty kick in such circumstances whether accidental or not? If anyone knows would be interested to hear

Good appointment for Oliver, hope nothing of note goes to var as i am not sure he has the best duo there to help him.

Gillett for me is the best var from sg1, good that he is appointed to another game.
Guess there will be involvement from sg1 in the europa league final group games on thurs too.

The regular familiar faces and uefa favourites out on the final round.
3 italians, 3 french, 3 spanish, 2 germans.

Ref Watch is stating that it's the correct decision because it's stopped a goal.

Gallagher saying that the laws were changed a season or so ago.

DERMOT SAYS: "The law was changed in August 2024. It was felt that if a player stops the ball accidentally with his hand from going in the goal, it isn't about handball, it's about stoping a goal. That's the difference, it's a dfferent part of the law.
"When you look at this incident from behind the goal, it is quite clear it is going in the goal. There is no doubt whatsoever it's going to be a goal. The goalkeeper is out."

On sky sports ref watch Mr gallagher says the handball law changed.

General Discussion / Re: C PAWSON - Arsenal v Man U
« on: Sun 25 Jan 2026 19:07 »
I've seen two photos on social media which look like the ball touches his arm, but can't find a decent clip - does anyone have a link?

What Do you mean by it looks like? Are you sure ie conclusive if not the goal has to stand. Tierney in var correct in my view.

Very assured performance by Pawson, the only possible flaw was allowing Fernandes to keep chatting after he had explained a decision and asked to walk away.

Andy Davies on ESPN who appears to have replaced Dale Johnson believes that it was a correct intervention by VAR. Davies was a premier league official and apparently worked on var.

Not the ‘ Andy Davies ‘ who wasnt too popular in this forum ?

Effortless, makes it so easy, no controversy and was hardly noticed.

Standard high level Oliver this afternoon.
Extra marks for wearing purple too ?

Well done to Hallam for sticking by his original decision, i hope he is supported for doing so.
Wore purple too for extra brownie points.
