Bit surprised to see gillett out again.
Was it his form that got him taken off cup final?

Was he ever on it ?

General Discussion / Re: Paul Tierney - Chelsea vs Newcastle
« on: Sat 14 Mar 2026 23:03 »
Why do they have to have a huddle on the centre spot, there is the whole field of play to do that. Tierney was only trying to protect the ball and the centre spot.
Huddles on the centre spot should be outlawed. In fact they shouldnt be allowed after the coin toss, it delaying the start.

Well deserved appointment for Bankes and team.
Especially pleased for Dan Robathan to be appointed as avar.

4
Good set of appointments bearing in mind the missing officials.
Taylor with our usual empty handed visit to Old Trafford.
Think the carabao cup final team will be the one at Burnley, they are ironing their ye***w shirts as we speak.

Good game for Kirk at SoL.
Tierney with an interesting return at the Bridge.

Hope none of the appointed referees get injured either in the warm up or during the game, if they do a chance of a referee with middles on consecutive days.

Without commenting on the rest of it, purely from a security point of view how was a fan, a masked fan at that, allowed to get close enough to the be able to pull the plug in the first place.

That could be a serious health and safety issue, the person is lucky he didnt get electrocuted.

Could retirement be on the cards for Bond? 48 y/o, seems to be injured, no appointment all season, has had a good few seasons at the top. No offence to anyone of that age but surely it is hard to come back from an injury at that age? Of course it’s possible but I imagine it’s much more difficult the older you get.

No info has come to light about Mr Bond so dont think we should speculate about retirement as of yet.

Extremely difficult for an English team to get an appointment when 6 out of 8 ties have an english team involved, maybe more chance in the euorpa or conference ties.

8
Atkinson on the trail of learning about refereeing.

General Discussion / Re: John Busby - Ipswich vs Leicester
« on: Sat 07 Mar 2026 18:47 »
Ipswich should get heavily sanctioned for there reaction at full time. The amount of security Busby needed was ridiculous

From someone in the ground and as a referee myself that was awfully distressing. Seeing security urgently requesting and asking for more of their own and then seeing Busby emerging.

Absolutely disgusting from McKenna and his team. Referees are humans too. Not to mention the stuff I’ve seen about Busby on social media.

Points deductions would help to nip these sort of scenes in the bud, fines mean nothing.

I wonder who the var was?

General Discussion / Re: A MADLEY - Spurs v Palace
« on: Thu 05 Mar 2026 23:00 »
Another comms kit failure for Madley this time.

Dear oh dear.

It is not a good look. I had my sympathy for Peter Bankes and his AR’s when it happened that day but this is happening too many times - it’s inexcusable really.

Wonder if its an issue within the stadium or perhaps spurs are looking for reasons to have games abandonded to avoid home defeats😂

General Discussion / Re: Thomas bramall- wolves v liverpool
« on: Wed 04 Mar 2026 22:41 »
Should have booked Rob Edwards running down the touchline celebrating the 2nd Wolves goal - David Moyes was booked the other week for doing so, again no consistency

Didnt Maresca get a second yellow earlier in the season for doing the same thing?
No consistency at all if he wasnt cautioned. For me it should be a straight red, you celebrate without leaving your technical area, he only needed to wait a few minutes and he could have done his lap of honour.

General Discussion / Re: Leeds V Sunderland - Stuart Atwell

The problem we have is pgmol guidance that only holding that is impactful results in a foul given, this just encourages players to keep holding rather than eradicating it.

If you to prevent holding in the penalty area then dont condone it simples !!

I think Beckford wasn't really thinking with his head and unfortunately in my opinion came across as very bitter.
Still had his Leeds head on from playing days

General Discussion / Re: Another poor weekend for VAR.
« on: Mon 02 Mar 2026 22:10 »
Mr Webb was brought in to improve refereeing and var after the period under Mr Riley.
I wasnt a fan of the latter pgmol chief but i cant see that Mr Webb has improved anything, if anything it has regressed. All this trying to appease everyone because its what the game wants has failed miserably and it wasnt too difficult to predict that it would.
