General Discussion / Re: Stuart Attwell: Sheffield United v Newcastle United« on: Sun 24 Sep 2023 19:24 »Poor decision to not offer Attwell an OFR on 37'. That should've been a penalty for Newcastle. Clear clip on Gordon. Perhaps he miked it a bit but I've seen them given for a lot less! The var official also gave a similar penalty on field last weekend and stuck by his decision on review, no consistency. 3

General Discussion / Re: Josh Smith: Luton v Wolves« on: Sun 24 Sep 2023 13:38 »The card shark from the wirral yday on sky agreed with the pundits in saying he couldnt understand why the decision wasnt overturned. It was a clear penalty. Until a couple of years ago law said that if the ball deflected off your body it wasn't handball, but that was taken out. When the ball hit the defender's arm it was almost vertically up in the air, that is a clear penalty under the current laws. 5

Thought AEK sub Mohammadi could have seen red for a bad foul on Lamptey under AR 1 nose but not even a free kick given.
Definately a very poor foul detection overall from the referee. 7

Two good interventions by var tonight, interesting to note that England was var
Tonight for Jones whereas roles were reversed at Villa Park on saturday. 9
General Discussion / Re: Aston Villa vs Crystal Palace- Darren England (VAR Rob Jones)« on: Mon 18 Sep 2023 15:21 »Opinions is what forums are all about and i respect yours ajb95 just like i do all other contributors. Just like Jones and England we can have differing opinions. Not convinced by the penalty at Villa park. Looks like Watkins kicked the defender to me. The fact England spent over 3 mins at the screen proves how much doubt there is over the decisionRichards caught Watkins first and then played the ball with his other leg. At the ground at the time of the incident watching England viewing the screen i said to other supporters around me he is going to stick with his original decision here. I can see both sides of the argument. 10
General Discussion / Re: David Coote - AFCB v Chelsea« on: Sun 17 Sep 2023 16:28 »Could have worn black, blue or orange but no he wore y****w, like Chelsea's goalie. He can get right to the naughty step and stay there until he goes away for the U17WC.The officials blended in well with the stewards and chelsea’s keeper in their not to be mentioned shirt colour choice. 11

Looks like Watkins kicked the defender to me. The fact England spent over 3 mins at the screen proves how much doubt there is over the decisionRichards caught Watkins first and then played the ball with his other leg. England gave the penalty onfield, the var asked him to review, watching him look at the screen i was pretty sure he would stick by his original decision he didnt look convinced to change his mind. Many people have asked for a referee to be called to the screen in circumstances of doubt and when he is and sticks by his original decision as he isnt convinced by the replays he is shown to overturn his original decision criticism is made about how long it takes. Dont think it was clear and obvious to send England to the screen, but i guess that is just two referees with differing opinions seeing things differently. The pundits on the radio seem to think England was right to stick by his original decision. Best wishes to Roy Hodgson for a swift recovery. 12

Non Footy Appointments / Re: The Hundred Cricket 2023 (Men)« on: Mon 28 Aug 2023 18:31 »I may be wrong but i dont think the ghost has umpired in the hundred this season, there were quite a few of the older brigade who thought long and hard before deciding to continue umpiring at the end of last season. Travelling on quick turnarounds in these one day tournaments was taking its toll.27th August 2023 Mallender has umpired many games in the 50 over one day cup this season, so perhaps he will get a semi tomorrow or the final. 15
