Poor decision to not offer Attwell an OFR on 37'. That should've been a penalty for Newcastle. Clear clip on Gordon. Perhaps he miked it a bit but I've seen them given for a lot less!
The var official also gave a similar penalty on field last weekend and stuck by his decision on review, no consistency.

It was a clear penalty.  Until a couple of years ago law said that if the ball deflected off your body it wasn't handball, but that was taken out.  When the ball hit the defender's arm it was almost vertically up in the air, that is a clear penalty under the current laws.

Having seen his TV interview after the match, perhaps somebody could/should advise the Wolves Manager Gary O'Neill.

And the pundits on Match of the Day who appear to be equally ignorant of the current guidelines, though that fact is about as newsworthy as 'dog bites man'

I didn't see MOTD but I agree with you.
The card shark from the wirral yday on sky agreed with the pundits in saying he couldnt understand why the decision wasnt overturned.

Sue Redfern to make her men’s first-class umpiring debut next week in the Glamorgan V Derbyshire match in Cardiff. More history made.

Congratulations to sue on her historic appointment, hope all goes well for her, lovely lady.

Thought AEK sub Mohammadi could have seen red for a bad foul on Lamptey under AR 1 nose but not even a free kick given.
Definately a very poor foul detection overall from the referee.

To answer your query, Chris Watts had a heart attack and has been unable to fulfil his duties
Best wishes to him for a speedy recovery

Two good interventions by var tonight, interesting to note that England was var
Tonight for Jones whereas roles were reversed at Villa Park on saturday.

Not convinced by the penalty at Villa park. Looks like Watkins kicked the defender to me. The fact England spent over 3 mins at the screen proves how much doubt there is over the decision

Side note: best wishes to palace manager Roy Hodgson who was taken ill before the game
Richards caught Watkins first and then played the ball with his other leg.
England gave the penalty onfield, the var asked him to review, watching him look at the screen i was pretty sure he would stick by his original decision he didnt look convinced to change his mind.
Many people have asked for a referee to be called to the screen in circumstances of doubt and when he is and sticks by his original decision as he isnt convinced by the replays he is shown to overturn his original decision criticism is made about how long it takes.
Dont think it was clear and obvious to send England to the screen, but i guess that is just two referees with differing opinions seeing things differently.
The pundits on the radio seem to think England was right to stick by his original decision.

Best wishes to Roy Hodgson for a swift recovery.

We will have to disagree then because I actually think he plays the ball first, Watkins leaves his leg in to make sure he gets caught so it looks like a penalty from behind. England was too far away IMO to make a clear judgement
Opinions is what forums are all about and i respect yours ajb95 just like i do all other contributors. Just like Jones and England we can have differing opinions.
At the ground at the time of the incident watching England viewing the screen i said to other supporters around me he is going to stick with his original decision here.
I can see both sides of the argument.

General Discussion / Re: David Coote - AFCB v Chelsea

Could have worn black, blue or orange but no he wore y****w, like Chelsea's goalie. He can get right to the naughty step and stay there until he goes away for the U17WC.

That was however his worst decision. 2 decisions spring to mind - no booking for Gallagher (I think) when he blatantly threw the ball away and delayed a free kick being taken and Chelsea should have had a free kick, tangle between I think Kluivert and a Chelsea player, looked to me like Kluivert kneed him in the back of the knee, it was certainly a foul. He didn't give it and play lead to a shot by AFCB. Would have been controversial if a goal had been scored.

Did almost get excited that we were going to get our 1st penalty since 26 April 2022 but no! Correctly awarded the free kick about 6 inches outside of the pen area. I do think the very tall Chelsea player could/should have been booked (? Jackson) for some very bratty behaviour that delayed the kick being taken. Couple of players from both teams looking like whiney babies there though!

Good offside call from Timothy Wood that led to a Chelsea goal being disallowed. It was a clear one but even so.  Over all happy with team ref, decent game of football to watch.

Still gets 7.9 for needlessly wearing y****w...
The officials blended in well with the stewards and chelsea’s keeper in their not to be mentioned shirt colour choice.

Semi Final appointments

Hampshire v Warwickshire - Steve O’Shaunessey and Tom Lungley
Leicester v Gloucester - Neil Mallender and Jack Shantry

Nice to see a couple of relatively new names in Lungley and Shantry in the mix
Thought you refering to Mallender when you mentioned relatively new names.

27th August 2023

Final:

Oval Invincibles Vs Manchester Originals (Lord’s)
Umpires: Mike Burns and Alex Wharf
Third Umpire: Paul Baldwin
Fourth Umpire: Ben Debenham
Match Referee: Phil Whitticase

I wonder if Mr Mallender is in the crowd 😂😂😂
I may be wrong but i dont think the ghost has umpired in the hundred this season, there were quite a few of the older brigade who thought long and hard before deciding to continue umpiring at the end of last season. Travelling on quick turnarounds in these one day tournaments was taking its toll.
Mallender has umpired many games in the 50 over one day cup this season, so perhaps he will get a semi tomorrow or the final.

This is NOT the forum for partisan fan arguing thank you,  please stick to discussing the referees decisions in a constructive manner or else moderated posts will have to follow so we can check before they go live . You have been warned thanks.

We certainly don’t want bmb to get her whip out to dish out some punishment do we! 😂😂😂
Or bmb handing out a yellow shirt and time on the naughty step😂

Robinson didn't see this as a foul:
https://twitter.com/ThePremInside/status/1695426311873864167?t=1TnbIOk8sANn7w58RCMoCg&s=19
so I'm not sure what game Connor McNamara was watching.
In his defence he was trying to let stuff go and allow physicality and has presumably seen the touch on the ball in this instance and not the follow through scissor. Sadly his tolerance level wasn't matched by his assistants who were "busy" and flagged for every flop in front of them.
The memo on clamping down on dissent doesn't seem to apply to James Maddison either.

I think the word "Cherry" in your name says it all here. Yes that was a missed foul, however you can see from his angle why he didn't give it, its not a horrendous error. If that's the worst thing he done, then he didn't do bad at all mate

I comment on my own team's games because they're the ones where I watch the full 90 and see the refs in action. I couldn't care less if that tackle was on a Bournemouth player, by a Bournemouth player or by anyone else. I even provided a link to a video so there was evidence and it wasn't just me making something up from a position of bias.
It is a bad scissor tackle, which, if he'd have given a red card for it, VAR wouldn't have been reducing. That's more likely to seriously damage someone's ligaments, as their leg gets stuck and their body twists, than half the tame studs-showing fouls with little force that get given red cards. Even level 7s are taught that playing the ball first isn't enough to stop it being a foul. To not even give it as a foul at his level is abysmal. So yeah given he got a pretty major and easy decision wrong, that a referee of his level shouldn't be getting wrong, it's not possible to describe him as having performed "really well".
Surprised var didnt bale him out if it was a red card offence
