Going one step further Martinez got a yellow card in the first leg and then received another in normal play tonight, if the yellow card received in the penalty shoot out counts against him is he suspended for the first leg of the semi final under the 3 yellow card rule?

Coote not been used as much by UEFA, would expect Attwell/Kavanagh or Attwell/Gillet if Taylor gets middle
It was very much a tongue in cheek question, with a large slice of i hope not
For the referee as well as us here.

As i said in the appointments thread oh dear Kruzliak.
Kruzliak was quite poor throughout with his random foul detection and couldnt wait to wave the card to match that of his shirt and that of quite a few other officials tonight who are gathered on missy bmbs naughty step, she must have upset someone in uefa this week lol.
In fact that step looks more like driveway.

If Taylor does get the Final, I wonder who would be 4O?   Oliver, one of the other English FIFA referees even though they are not 'elite', or another European?   As for VAR, I guess Attwell would be the obvious choice if an Englishman was appointed.  He's not been without controversy however.
If Liverpool and West Ham bow out tonight Oliver may be in with a shout for the Europa League Final, however if Taylor gets the Champions League final the 4th official job for Oliver would be a good appointment. Anyone think Coote might be var in readiness for his Olympic games duties says he as he leaves the room abruptly.

A mixed bag of sorts by Orsato tonight on two or three occasions he and his AR’s mixed deflections for GK or CK basic stuff really

He let the game flow for the vast majority of it then seemed to give FK’s for everything and also proceeded on a few occasions to frustrate players and fans he gave FK one way then changed his mind and awarded it the other way I didn’t think he wa fully focused / his usual self and I got this impression aswell when the TNT cameras were on him when captains gathered at the coin toss prior to kick off
Think the giving free kicks one way then the other was a classic of forgetting momentarily which way teams were kicking. We used to have a local referee who often screamed blue ball and pointed the wrong way just after half time, something i am sure we have all been guilty of.

A point made to me last night.

Would the attacker have reached the ball before the goalkeeper?
Did he have control, even before the challenge, he did seem to have had a "heavy" touch
Watching the replay again i would say yes and yes.
Without the challenge he would have reached the ball first and without the challenge he would have has a shot at goal.

Absolute masterclass from Kovacs, he was always in full control, all major decisions and sanctions correct. A breath of fresh air for refereeing, something the pgmol could learn from.
The look on his face from early on showed he was extremely well focused and in the zone.
Fitness levels excellent.
On this performance for me a worthy candidate for the final.

That dont mess with me face reminded me a little of Collina.

One last thing, not happy that red card recipients are allowed on the field after the final whistle and xavi if still full of anger would have been better advised to avoid speaking to the referee.

I think Graham Scott from the SG1 will be one whether he wants to or not, he will be a reluctant one off the list
If he want to remain on the list and passes his fitness tests it would be difficult and harsh to try to remove him

Oh dear Kruzliak with van Boekel on var.

Robinson for us at Villa park. Expect to see some yellow, but probably not from team ref.
Good games for Madley and Kavanagh.
Nice to see Scott and Bramall with games.

Was an obvious penalty kick.  Just merely trying to find out the record for penalties awarded to one team in a single season.  Their penalties per touches inside opposition penalty box is also hard to believe!
Penalty kicks awarded per touches inside the box are irrelevant.

General Discussion / Re: Bournemouth v Man Utd - T Harrington
« on: Tue 16 Apr 2024 10:46 »
Dale Johnson thinks both VAR decisions will be supported.

He thinks handball was very harsh but as on-field decision holds weight there was not enough for VAR to say it was wrong.

He says foul at end was not holding offence but tripping/blocking and first point of contact outside area.
Dermot confirmed similar on ref watch.
He said the ref thought Smith turned making himself bigger, but i would say it was a natural movement.
He said Harrington fed thru to var he gave the penalty which was overturned for the trip, here i would say he was poss too quick on the whistle unlike Tierney at Chelsea last night.

Another Chelsea penalty!!  Good grief when will it end?!?!  Does anyone know the record penalties won in a 38 match season?  They must be on for the record?!
Stats mean nothing if an offence by a defender is committed in the penalty area then a penalty kick should be awarded regardless of the teams involved. This was a stonewall penalty kick.
