I would agree with all the comments made missed the chance to assert his authority in the early stages of the game, and was inconsistent in penalising offences during the whole game.

Referees are human  like players and do make mistakes, i would agree a mistake was made in not sending off the City player for what should have been a second yellow card. If you  watch the incident regarding the second City goal the Forest player was very clever by wrapping his leg round the City defender's leg and fell over hoping for a free kick, so if anything the correct decision was made  play continued and the goal was correctly awarded.
It his surprising how managers  complain when things don't go for them, it appears a common theme with Notts Forest managers in the present and the past.

Not surprised after his last performance last Friday night a Crewe

I would totally agree with the comments made regards the performance of Michael Barlow last night  he had three major KMI and for two he got completely wrong, i believe it his first season on the EFL , many more performances like that and it will be a short career, hopefully there was a referee observer at the game. The Crewe no29 was sent off for violent conduct and rightly so with the Bristol no6 cautioned.

Has stated previously the Bristol no 6  then made  a reckless challenge which should have been a second caution, which would have resulted in him being sent off, he only had a word with him, he then a few minutes later pulled the Crewe attacker back by his shirt in the penalty area which he waved play on he did have a clear view of it, but bottled the decision. The Bristol goalkeeper caught the ball clearly outside the penalty area for which the assistant flagged for straight away, he stopped play and went over to speak to him which resulted in Crewe being awarded a direct free-kick, and the goalkeeper cautioned There were times when Bristol were not happy, when they should have decisions, but after the major incidents he appeared to lose some control of the game for a  period of time, i hate to think what would have happened if the game had turned nasty due to his performance.

I will be attending the visit of Ed Duckworth at Crewe v Newport i actually know him i have been waiting for him to be appointed to a Match at Crewe looking at comments made on Rate the Ref it could be an interesting viewing. Always seems to get negative comments, and use to work for the FA, if you work for them you get looked after.

I observed Tom Kirk when he was coming through the ranks and he showed great potential then, you are correct he did go to America with his work, but since coming back he has  carried on  showing he has the ability to do well and i am sure with the promise he has shown and now getting a Premier League appointment has a good chance  to go higher and obtain a UEFA badge as he has age on his side.

Cup Appointments / Re: The Emirates FA Cup - 2025/2026
« on: Sun 02 Nov 2025 10:29 »
I would totally agree with the comments, he was very inconsistent in recognition of offences when it wasn't a foul he awarded a free-kick, and when it was a foul he allowed play to continue, this affected both teams, thou he seemed to favour more free kicks to Doncaster who at times appeared to fall over numerous times and he felt for it. Overall a poor performance

Another very good appointment for Tom Kirk, it would appear he his doing well.

I would agree with the comments made  about Aron Bannister performance, he  did not have a good game, Bromley certainly knew how to get cheap free-kicks and  were wasting time from early in the game, how many times he told the Bromley goalkeeper to hurry up a the taking of  a goal kick. It was hoped that there was a Referee Observer at the game because on this performance he is not up to the expected standard.

The overall standard of refereeing has been poor this season , although they are all fit and move around well, they have difficulty in recognising offences which should be penalised.

Tom Kirk has great potential another referee who started in Cheshire, i had the pleasure of observing him when he was  a level 4 and showed potential at that level, which resulted in him being appointed to referee the Cheshire FA Senior Cup Final at a young age and he did very well that night.

As stated by several peoples comments he must have a chance to be appointed to a Premier league game later in the season

Pleased to see Tom Kirk, getting some good appointments and has been stated he is doing well, observed him when he was coming through the the ranks in Cheshire, and  looked if he had potential to get to the standard he has achieved so far, lets hope it continues, and he make the Premier League.

I would agree with your comments, his main concern was having free-kicks taken from the correct blade of grass, overall he was very inconsistent in recognising shirt pulling and in recognising  fouls, some he gave and others he just let go, how the Assistant  on the  stand side didn't see the incident when the Crewe player was held by his shirt as he went to head the ball in the first half in the penalty area..  I thought the ref was inconsistent for both teams and overall  about the usual standard, which must be a concern as thou the referee's are fit they don't have enough experience before being promoted.

I have known Tom Kirk a long time and also observed him, in last nights game i thought there were times when he should have dealt with offending players ie at least two Fleetwood players should have been cautioned for offences, he did give a free-kick but they were both reckless challenges, and if he had maybe he would not have had to administered 11 cautions in the second half,  I would agree he played an excellent advantage in the first half which  led to Crewe's second goal.
I am very pleased he has been promoted to the next level and has the makings of an excellent referee for the future, but this was not one of his best performances last night.

Perhaps we would have been better off with Alan Young, he couldn't have been any worse than Seth was yesterday, he was inconsistent in his recognition of offences and as said his lack of communications with player's didn't help. I got the impression he thought the game was about him not the players. Not the best day at the office

General Discussion / Re: Euro 2025 Final - Frappart
« on: Mon 28 Jul 2025 14:55 »
I don't think it was her best performance, there were several fouls during the game which were done by Spain and correctly penalised, by the awarding of a free-kick to  England, but when done by England she cautioned the offending player. She  was inconsistent in dealing with these offences. I had the feeling that as the game went on any 50/50 challenges always went to Spain.

She is probably the best female referee in the world, and does referee in Champions League and other European competitions, so she is well thought of UEFA, but this was not as good , as i expected her to be.

Bur in fairness referees  are only human just like the players and do make mistakes and don't always get all decisions correct.
