The Nigeria player was holding the England player from the edge of the penalty area and gave her a push in the penalty area to which she went down with the referee was well placed to see the incident and instantly pointed and awarded a penalty kick.
Then VAR intervened and recommended the referee go to the monitor and review it, which she did and changed here decision.
With regards the sending off which was correct she had issued the yellow card and i don't think she actually saw it. I think Lucy Bronze was lucky not to be penalised in the penalty area late in the game when she charged into the back of her opponent, perhaps VAR wasn't brave enough to bring it to the referee's attention? To be fair overall i thought she had a good game

I thought for his first game Ben Atkinson did reasonably well, i would agree his cautions and his sending off were correct thou there were one or two tackles which he identified and awarded a free kick for were worthy of a caution. He remained mobile and showed a good level of fitness and appeared better than some first season referees i have seen in recent years perform . Thou at times could have made his decisions quicker
Just read Nigel Cloughs comments on the game and he thought the red card was harsh, as he said there was no malice in the tackle, it was an awful tackle and fully deserved being sent off.

It will be interesting to watch Ben Atkinson at Crewe v Mansfield, as he started his refereeing in Crewe and i observed him during his promotions, he is a very fit referee and i am sure he will do well in the EFL.

Are you James Bond in disguise?!🫣
Ben Atkinson started his refereeing in Crewe before he went to University and then moved to London, a very promising referee in his early days, in fact his father was an Assistant Referee on the Football League years ago.

Seems strange appointments for the L2 Play Off final as three of the officials were involved in the semi-final appointments.

Pleased for Rob Jones he has had some unfair comments at times but seems to have improved, now Mike Jones has disappeared from the scene he seems to be getting better appointments. Having seen Rob progress through the ranks i believe he will prove a lot of people wrong and will do well as a FIFA Official Lets hope Gabriel does well and we see her on the women's FIFA list in years to come.

Hope Rebecca Welch has a better game at Crewe on Friday night than she had when she was there earlier in the season, she was very poor for both teams missed numerous offences and missed a clear penalty to Crawley, and saw no issue when a Crewe player was taken out by the last defender when he was going into the penalty area.

I thought during the first half she was inconsistent in her recognition of offences which were for both sides, she did improve in the second half, but would agree about the Assistant Referee on the nearside he didn't want to make any decisions and could have helped Rebecca with fouls near to him and has been said his interpretation on/offside was poor. On her overall performance she will have to improve considerably to get to the next level, even thou she is a FIFA Referee in the women's game.

Would totally agree with the comments about Tom Nield he was poor two cynical challenges in the first half by the Stevenage defender just a free-kick for the first one, and a word with him after the second. In the first half a Crewe player was tackled from behind on the edge of the Stevenage penalty area and gave a yellow card when he was the last defender. Was correct with the penalty, but Stevenage had a strong penalty claim a few minutes later which he turned down, i could understand why Stevenage bench were not happy from my position looked a clear penalty. Mr Nield has history with Crewe, but never the less his overall performance was below the standard expected. I thought he would have yellow carded the Stevenage Assistant who stood questioning every decision he gave during the game, instead gave it to Steve Evans, who for most of the game sat down. It must be said he was poor for both teams, but to be fair to Stevenage on there second half performance they deserved to win the game

Anthony Taylor was in a great position to see the Spurs player pull is opponent by the hair, and did nothing about it, that was a typical premier league referee these days see nothing and wait for VAR. Looks like Mike Dean will be making some interesting decisions if yesterdays performance on VAR is anything to go by. I would have been very surprised if he had been refereeing the game that he would have seen the incident regards the violent conduct by the Spurs player and taken the necessary action.

Robert Jones refereeing LEEWOL just the same as the 1-1 at Elland Road last season. He also was 4th officials at Leeds roughly half of our home games so I wonder how much more we will see him at Elland Road this year. I bet Rob Jones had already got his hotel booked for Leeds, i agree his appointments at Leeds last season were a joke at least Mike Riley will be going at the end of the season and perhaps more sensible appointments will be made to allow all officials an even playing field. edited to fix quote thingamajigga

Tom Kirk must have done very well, to be promoted from the National league so quickly, thou i note several comments about the ability of numerous referees on the National League list, so perhaps ability has been shown and rewarded, on watching some FL League games there have been some poor performances this last season, with numerous names always appearing as having a poor game but maintained on the list.
So it will be interesting to see how he does, after speaking to him he his looking forward to the challenge, he will probably be sent to Stevenage first game to see Steve Evans, as a baptism of fire.
