Football League - L1 & L2 / Re: Sat 2nd – Tue 5th MAR 2024

I thought he looked the part as previously stated, but how the Morecambe no 38 was never cautioned after committing numerous foul's was a surprise. On the whole i thought he was inconsistent with his recognition of offences as the game went on, and how he never awarded a penalty when the Crewe N5 was held and then pulled down was astonishing.
I think he could have the makings of a good referee with more experience, but yesterday was not the best of performances.

The present Crewe manager was not the manager when David Rock was last time at Crewe it was Dave Artell, managers go on the pitch at the end of the game and usually shake hands with the officials you see it often happen. I  would have thought the referee would indicate to the 4th official how long to indicate on the board the amount of added time.

Correct observers wont speak to managers about incidents, i would think he would have some things to say to David Rock he never got to grips with the Harrogate goalkeeper  until late in the game when he cautioned him for time wasting, he had done it from the start of the game. I thought referees were under instructions to deal with players wasting time.

Overall performance was  a little inconsistent with one of the worst fouls in the game not even penalised, and he allowed play to continue, in which Harrogate nearly scored off. I am sure he has had better days on the field of play

Worst referee in the Football League  makes his decisions from to far away from play that's why he gets so many wrong

Really really poor from Alan tonight. Every time someone goes down he gives it. Every foul results in a yellow card. Barrow get a pen for a push, they do the same thing to Crewe but no pen. Inconsistent ref who was handing out Christmas cards when he wanted. Booked 2 of our players for dissent, yet doesn’t book one of theirs who he spoke to for 2 minutes? Make it make sense.

I agree it was one of the worst refereeing performances i have witnessed in the EFL for some time card happy with 8 cautions, and after cautioning the Barrow no 13 he gave him another mouthful  so he got the Barrow skipper involved involved. George Ray did the same antics when he played for Crewe always falling over in the penalty area. during the game he did not look interested he just  seems to  walk about but always i noticed talking to Barrow players. The performance was below the standard but he still gets given games to spoil. When cautioning players he just shows the yellow card but his well away from the players  and points at the players his communications skills are very poor. The only positive thing about his performance was he had a very whistle.

Rebecca Welch was always going to get on the Premier league, so the power's that be can claim they have a female referee on their panel, saw her do one of her first games in the EFL at Crewe and wasn't over impressed, but may be she has improved, thou i still think it is a bit to quick to appoint her to a Premier league game. But I hope it goes well for her.

The Doncaster defender knew what he was doing by taking the Crewe forward out, if he hadn't have fouled him the Crewe forward would have been in a good position to move forward towards the Penalty area. Personally i think he was lucky to only receive a yellow card when you look at the force of the challenge which was very late.

The Nigeria player was holding the England player from the edge of the penalty area and gave her a push in the penalty area to which she went down with the referee was well placed to see the incident and instantly pointed and awarded a penalty kick.

Then VAR intervened and recommended the referee go to the monitor and review it, which she did and changed here decision.

With regards the sending off which was correct she had issued the yellow card and i don't think she actually saw it. I think Lucy Bronze was lucky not to be penalised in the penalty area late in the game when she charged into the back of her opponent, perhaps VAR wasn't brave enough to bring it to the referee's attention?
To be fair overall i thought she had  a good game

I thought for his first game Ben Atkinson did reasonably well, i would agree his cautions and his sending off were correct thou there were  one or two tackles which he identified and awarded a free kick for were worthy of a caution.
He remained mobile and showed a good level of fitness and appeared better than  some first season referees i have seen in recent years perform . Thou at times could have made his decisions quicker

Just read Nigel Cloughs comments on the game and he thought the red card was harsh, as he said there was no malice in the tackle, it was an awful tackle and fully deserved being sent off.

It will be interesting to watch Ben Atkinson at Crewe v Mansfield, as he started his refereeing in Crewe and i observed him during his promotions, he is a very fit referee and i am sure he will do well in the EFL.

Are you James Bond in disguise?!🫣

Ben Atkinson started his refereeing in Crewe before he went to University and then moved to London, a very promising referee in his early days, in fact his father was an Assistant Referee on the Football League years ago.

Seems strange appointments for the L2 Play Off final as three of the officials were involved in the semi-final appointments.
