General Discussion / Re: C PAWSON - Arsenal v Man U
« on: Sun 25 Jan 2026 18:34 »
Credit where it’s due Pawson was superb , he didn’t really have anything to do but refereed what was in front of him , he let the game flow and stayed in the background

2
No disrespect but I’m not impressed with Pawson having such a big game , at times he gets flustered and is easily swayed . That said I hope he has a good game though.  Hallam is a surprising appointment .

3
Not sure what Beswick was doing for the 2nd disallowed Utd goal he kept his flag down when he was walking back to the halfway line

4
I thought Hooper was excellent and I think he was correct to send Lacey off I wouldn’t want Hooper to jeopardise any chance he has of getting a cup final this year which he probable would have done if he failed to send him off just as I wouldn’t expect a player to pull out of a desperate tackle in a semi final in order to be able to play in the final

5
Excellent as usual by Hooper and as the commentators said over the weekend referees have smiled and enjoyed themselves without VAR I would say there has been very little if any controversy ( except John brooks penalty decision ) in the weekends FA Cup matches

6
I thought Attwell did ok , was fairly generous in the first half until the cash booking from then on he seemed to be swayed easily a couple of cards were delayed and seemed to be brandished based on players reaction tried to let the game flow and play advantages .  His efforts to try manage the game prior to the cash booking seemed to backfire overall , Chelsea lost their discipline in the second half and no blame can put at Attwell’s door for that

General Discussion / Re: B Toner - Birmingham V Derby
« on: Fri 26 Dec 2025 16:17 »
For me Toner was average that’s all , not bad but not good .

8
From what I can see only Robinson and Tierney without a PL middle over the festive period . Good appointment for Harrington on Sunderland vs Leeds , happy with Bramhall for us ( Man Utd vs Wolves )

9
Sounds like a typical inconsistent mixed bag  Madley performance these days , shame really as he was a top ref a couple of seasons ago but seems to have lost his way a bit

General Discussion / Re: P Bankes- Sunderland v Newcastle
« on: Sun 14 Dec 2025 16:08 »
Sunderland vs Newcastle matches are one of the toughest to referee in this country and I thought Bankes handled it very well.  Wasn’t swayed by the fans or players and dealt with the handbags at the end calmly and efficiently also with good support from his assistants

General Discussion / Re: John Brooks article

I too can echo those last few words. I met him at and event last winter and he came across as a really nice person who seems passionate about the game. One of our best officials when he’s on form. It’s a real shame he picks up a lot of injury issues.

I was never a fan of him when he first burst onto the scene as a SG referee I thought he was to strict and card happy but he’s since bedded in really well and mellowed  and is a excellent referee now I have a tremendous amount of respect for him and he’s gone up in my estimation since I saw him on mic’d up and this video only seems to justify my opinion

General Discussion / Re: Felix Zwayer: Inter v Liverpool
« on: Wed 10 Dec 2025 12:27 »
Zwayer was prob top contender for champions league final coming into this season but surely that’s gone now.atleast 1 ofr every game including one shocking one last night.weak refereeing by him.
If that was makkelie or Taylor that had this run they wouldn’t get a knockout game never mind near a final..

Unfortunately because I rate and like Zwayer as a referee you are likely to be correct but I hope he redeems himself if he has any further appointments in the EL or CL this season

While we all know that the handball rule is far stricter in UEFA and FIFA competitions I am not convinced it’s a penalty all the same . The penalty given for the tug was a joke Zwayer should have stuck to his on field decision

That’s a decent appointment for Siebert , Turpin with the blockbuster tie of the evenings matches
