An average performance by Scharer , poor foul detection very soft yellow cards , and the penalty was soft ok you probably get them in UEFA/FIFA tournaments . Really needs to improve ahead of the World Cup

Pleased to see Taylor with the Tyne-Wear derby if slightly surprised given he had Sunderland in the FA Cup 2 weeks ago!

To be honest I am not surprised Anthony Taylor has got the Tyne/Wear gig.

Peter Bankes did the reverse fixture and I would  have been happy to see him officiate the return but given the injuries to a fair few SG1 refs other than Gillet I don't think we can raise issue with the appointment.

Bankes is reffing the Carabao Cup final at Wembley this weekend

General Discussion / Re: Paul Tierney - Chelsea vs Newcastle
« on: Mon 16 Mar 2026 18:29 »
I’m pretty certain that Tierney is one of very few officials who stands at the centre circle before kick off , if that is the case I don’t see why he should change his routine when Chelsea have a entire half of the pitch to have their huddle , but I agree it doesn’t look good on the face of it as if Chelsea had been given a controversial penalty the conspiracy theorists would have a field day

It’s great seeing Thomas Bramhall doing brilliantly and continuing what has been a excellent season for him so far like me there are plenty who like and appreciate Bramhalls style of refereeing and today was no different

I would say Bramhall and Bankes have been the best this season apart from Oliver and Taylor

Cup Appointments / Re: The Emirates FA Cup - 2025/2026
« on: Mon 02 Mar 2026 16:37 »
I am guessing the remaining game will receive it's appointment when it has been played tomorrow night! Port Vale/Bristol City vs Sunderland! Any predictions as to who could take that?

Pawson of attwell would be my bet

Edit - Fixing the quote

General Discussion / Re: Referee Manager Game
« on: Sun 01 Mar 2026 20:02 »
I certainly would be interested in giving the game a try

7
Not upto the standards expected by a SG1 referee I’m afraid and his two big appointments coming up over the next week or so I really hope he picks himself up

8
Bankes star is certainly continuing to shine very brightly indeed another couple of cracking appointments for him  Kav returns at Old Trafford . No sign of Jones , Hooper or Bond also a PL debut for AR Hristo Karaivanov

General Discussion / Anthony Backhouse : Blackburn vs Preston
« on: Sat 21 Feb 2026 03:56 »
I thought he was excellent tonight reminded of the very same performances he put in week in week out and was destined to get to the very top based on his appointments until he suffered injury problems

He let the game flow stepped in when he needed to and cautioned when he needed to , the one thing I have always thought he needs to improve on is his positioning at times in matches play is close to him on the edge of penalty areas and he seems to remain static and doesn’t seem to read the play like most referees do.

Kavanagh and Greenhalgh nowhere to be seen , wonder if that’s a reflection of the weekend just gone

General Discussion / Re: C PAWSON - Arsenal v Man U

Credit where it’s due Pawson was superb , he didn’t really have anything to do but refereed what was in front of him , he let the game flow and stayed in the background

13
No disrespect but I’m not impressed with Pawson having such a big game , at times he gets flustered and is easily swayed . That said I hope he has a good game though.  Hallam is a surprising appointment .

14
Not sure what Beswick was doing for the 2nd disallowed Utd goal he kept his flag down when he was walking back to the halfway line

15
I thought Hooper was excellent and I think he was correct to send Lacey off I wouldn’t want Hooper to jeopardise any chance he has of getting a cup final this year which he probable would have done if he failed to send him off just as I wouldn’t expect a player to pull out of a desperate tackle in a semi final in order to be able to play in the final
