General Discussion / Re: A.Taylor - Chelsea v Manchester City
« on: Sun 12 Nov 2023 18:44 »
Interesting how the opinions are divided. I would put Taylor down as having a game of two halves

That is fine if you realise immediately. If you have rated, maybe quite inadvertently, and moved to another topic, it will not work.

It might still work after you have visited another topic , I’m not sure, I only put it as a suggestion incase members weren’t aware of it or if they realise they have put the wrong icon in their post

When you post a comment at the bottom right corner of your post there it says undo rating to correct a wrong icon there where it says undo rating just press it and then put the correct icon in

I always like seeing Breakspear on the TV
always seems a safe pair of hands does his utmost best to enhance the game by letting it flow

General Discussion / Re: M OLIVER - Tottenham v Chelsea
« on: Tue 07 Nov 2023 14:19 »
Do you know what I find fascinating?

My daily routine includes listening to TalkSport in the morning then come to work and check this board. What was to be honest refreshing today is on TS the general consensus, both from the presenters and a journalist and ex footballer guest were that the officiating, on an incredibly busy night for both Michael Oliver and VAR, was very good - got most big decisions correct, or at least not overturning the 50/50 calls - so as I say generally positive.

I then come onto this board, and most obviously with page 1 of comments - looks to be mostly negative to the officials - admittedly a lot of comments during the match which I think are mostly biased - but certainyl a lot of feelign that reds were missed and oliver himself was totally off form.

I am just fascinated that once again it demonstrates the fact that the 2 different 'communites' - Media and referee are once again disagreeing with what they saw - and as per the differing reactions from Arteta and Postecoglu the 'footballing' community disagree with what they are looking for  - to me the biggest issue with VAR is that everyone is looking for something sifferent from it - so it will never 'work' in most peoples eyes untill there is a distinct way of workign that everyone is happy with - which may take a very long time

Michael Oliver is very well liked and a huge favourite of many on this board , so given the criticism of him on this thread is hardly bias . We all have our opinions on how he performed in this match.

Tierney and Klopp reunited good to see Robinson , Salisbury and Barrot with games , Scott in the middle at Old Trafford

Peter Bankes rarely lets two PL middles in a row is another observation

82
Bond is injured and Harrington might be injured again aswell

Genuine question - what does Bruno Fernandes have to do to get a red? Going around in the final few mins like a petulant child, throwing himself into tackles and snarling at the officials. It beggars belief that he never seems to see red for his antics. A nasty individual

As a Utd fan I have to agree with Hendo , in the past few weeks Fernandes has put more effort into harassing referees , moaning and flapping his arms like a petulant child than he has contributing to Utd on the pitch , Rashford has been poor yet ETH still starts him

For the record I don’t blame Oliver or the officials for utds defeat , we are just an average team , we are nowhere near Brentford or Brighton’s level let alone city, Liverpool’s , Arsenal or tottenhams

I only take umbrage ( yes that is a word that a few on here like to use lol ) with the fact yes it’s a foul but 99% of the time its not given why give it in such a big game? I can almost guarantee next time Oliver is VAR and a similar offence occurs he won’t recommend a OFR

General Discussion / Paul Tierney : Man Utd vs Man City
« on: Sun 29 Oct 2023 15:59 »
Imo that’s a poor intervention by Michael Oliver on VAR we see that sort of thing every match without being penalised again this where there is no consistency 99% of the time they go unpunished

I am not saying it’s not a foul but we see it at least a dozen times a game without VAR intervention , VAR is a mess and a example of making it look like it’s working

He must have been as bored as I was after the drab first half that I witnessed

General Discussion / Marco Guida : Man Utd vs Copenhagen

I thought overall an excellent performance by Guida , he kept his cards in his pocket , he correctly booked Fernandes , I’m not sold on the penalty , yes a high boot was raised was there contact ? Replays or my eyes say inconclusive if there is one thing to nitpick it’s he’s frequently so far behind play but he got the decisions correct and played some good advantages I would be happy to see him on another Utd game

88
Excellent to see Barrott and Robinson continuing their run of games , Jones number of appointments seem to be dropping , I have my reservations about Tierney on the Manchester Derby because he’s hardly been great so far this season

89
Yet another wrong offside decision from Adrian Holmes again today. He is becoming a liability

If your referring to the offside I think you are I was thinking the same thing but on seeing the replay it looks offside to the naked eye so can’t really blame Holmes for that

General Discussion / Re: C.Pawson - Merseyside Derby
« on: Sat 21 Oct 2023 18:15 »
I thought what should have been a second yellow for Konate was because it was cynical ,  Pawson has no empathy for the game he could /should have used common sense with regards to Youngs 2nd yellow card
