Sorry if I’ve missed something but where is Charles Breakspear? Don’t recall seeing him for a few weeks

I was told at the weekend that he is injured

I haven’t seen Seb Stockbridge too many times in recent years but the occasions I have, he’s not been the best on field. Hopefully he changes my mind on Saturday.

First time I have seen him.  Thought he was very good.  Let some strong challenges go which many referees would’ve over reacted.

Also noted, Darren Cann on AVAR duties as well

Assuming he continues as an AVAR, would he be the first full time AVAR in the EPL? Feel like I am forgetting someone.

Andy Halliday did it as a specialist AVAR for a season after he stopped officiating

Can’t be sure, but maybe he was over the age to be nominated for FIFA when he got on the Prem list

Was at the game.
Overall he refereed the game very well, but fully agree that the time added was slightly wrong.
The GK was holding the ball 15 seconds plus every time, we know that indirect free kicks are never given, but until a referee has the balls to penalise it, it then it will never change.  He definitely had opportunity to give a Yellow card for time wasting on numerous occasions at goal kicks and throws, especially as he was seen warning then plenty of times, one early on may have made a difference.
But as it happens 4 mins added was perfect 😂

IMO Sunny’s arrogance lets him down.  He knew from a while back that he was destined to get near the top, unfortunately it was for the wrong reasons, that we know.  Signing autographs at Fulham was probably his biggest mistake!

Farai has impressed and I would definitely say that he is there on merit.  I can see him aligned to SG2 before the former.

Keith Stroud has not referred a game in the whole of September. I wonder if he might be carrying an injury. Anyone know?
Also there has been no sight of Jeremy Simpson at all this season. Again, injured
It’s interesting that Geoff Eltringham has not reffed a Championship game this season, though has been 4O on a few occasions. Strange
Keith Stroud has taken a coaching role so is no longer on the referee list

Always intrigued to see Michael Oliver on Southampton games as his wife is a big Pompey fan
Ex wife. As has been for a few years now

General Discussion / Re: Match Officials List

The EFL site have updated their list of officials (SG2 and National Group). With the combined list there are many additions. Given that we already know about Darren Handley and Rob Lewis, the only name missing on the list of referees I could work out compared to last season is Marc Edwards.

https://www.efl.com/match-officials

Wow!! That list is huge now. I wonder if we’ll see a hierarchy established within the list still (i.e. referees appointed to their same levels as last year) or whether it’ll quickly/gradually become a truly mixed set of appointments. I agree it appears only Marc Edwards is missing from the referees list.

A huge list to tick the Diversity box maybe 🤔

Interesting to see that despite PL try-out games last season, Lewis Smith and Sunny Singh Gill remain on the National List when many had predicted SG2 or even SG1

They are in the ERDP so they will get Championship and Prem games

I understand Neil Hair has been out injured and not likely to return this season

It would be really interesting to know which is the chief criterion for getting a trial game at a more senior level. I guess it must be Observers' reports, always assuming there isn't any dirty work at the crossroads with favouritism.

Someone I am amazed hasn't been offered a trial is Neil Hair. He has been outstandingly good on the three times I have seen him, one of the very best I have seen in Leagues 1 and 2.  Clearly the Observers think otherwise or maybe he has indicated he does not wish to be considered for promotion and go full time.

Charles Breakspear is another who I think has been unfairly overlooked if, indeed, he is willing to go higher.

Just wondering why breakspear gets all of the derby/ rivalry but has never been given a promotion or trial game in the championship

Because he is a safe pair of hands that can deliver any game.  Has been overlooked for years now.  Obviously doesn’t fit the perfect profile that they seem to be after

James Oldham is now on the National League (Step 1)
As is Nicholas Cooper from the Assistants list

Darren Handley - Now an observer
Rob Lewis - Now a Ref coach
Michael George - Now an AR coach

14
He is a top ref and bloke

He speaks his mind and is honest.  Not afraid to share his opinion…

Probably the reason he has not been afforded the opportunity of SG1

His name does appear as a referee on the list of National Group officials published on Twitter and Instagram by the PGMOL just a week ago so I can see why the confusion.....
I agree, but this is due to the appointment of the coaches being made after the officials were released
