Sounds as if Donohue made a complete dogs dinner of his match this afternoon.... losing complete control of proceedings and then sending off the wrong player in Diagana. Thankfully the mistake was corrected and Ferguson was deservingly binned.
Promoted too soon maybe?
definitely. Suych an inexperienced ref should never have been given a top of the table clash. He does seem to get Charlton games a lot though 3 out of 8 I think. Second dodgy penalty he's given Charlton in time added on too (he gave one at Barnsley earlier in the season).
With regard to the Ferguson sending off. I thought at the time it was a red card but having seen it back I think the fact it happens right in front of the Charlton bench and the reaction of Solly (why is he clutching his head?) had a lot to do with the red being given. A foul yes but I don't think it was wild or reckless/dangerous and should have been a yellow. I notice Mason Holgate made a very similar challenge in Evertons game at Brighton and received only a yellow.
Donohue was poor all day, he missed the handball for the Robson-Kanu goal and the penalty at the end should have been a free kick to WBA for handball by the Charlton player. He booked Livermore in the 1st minute for his first challenge where Livermore obviously slipped on a wet pitch which carried him into the Charlton player, a bit of common sense with regard to the weather conditions should have been applied. A foul yes but a yellow card no. Once he'd set his stall out though he was very inconsistent in his giving of free kicks. Pereira gets thrown to the ground and it's not a foul, Sawyers wins the ball cleanly yet Charlton are given a freekick.
