Might just make it if they have a VAR check to see whether he used to teach James Milner and if he should be allowed to referee him or not

Nothing against Jon Moss personally, but I don't like this appointment. The EFL Championship Play-off Final has one of the richest prizes in the world, both in terms of prestige and finance. It needs to be handled by the best referee available. If Oliver and Taylor are not available, it should go to Pawson, Attwell or Kavanagh.

I've no problem with Jon Moss being Fourth Official or VAR, but the game must have the best referee in England every year. It's too big a game to be a retirement gift.

There is logic in there, all 3 retirees were given games that werent in the spotlight on Sunday, then this.
I hope he knew beforehand as otherwise thats quite the emotional rollercoaster

Not sure I buy that.  It is for promotion to the Premier League so they have a Premier League referee on it, a referee that has been entrusted with top four games in that division, it isn't as if he is a rookie.

We simply have to accept that Riley, or whoever is the appointing power for this huge match, has a far higher estimation of Jon Moss than most of the RTR correspondents. My own view, and borne out by this appointment, is that Jon Moss has received many high profile matches which his overall competence does not justify but my opinion is quite irrelevant compared to an official view of an 'anointed one'. I wish him well with this match; I hope the ball runs kindly on his last match and that no-one is left with egg on their face. Atkinson or Dean would have been far worthier appointments in my unimportant view.
