If they intend to use VAR in L1 and L2 finals then it’s gotta be SG1 officials surely?

Correct, the FIFA VAR protocols mean that all EFL Play-Off Finals will now have to be refereed by SG1 referees, supported by assistants from SG1 and SG2. The 4th officials and reserve assistants can also only be appointed from officials who have recent experience of VAR.

PGMOL were not expecting this last minute decision to be made so no doubt those non-SG1 Referees who were in-line to receive appointments will be rewarded in some way next season.

Another top down policy being forced into nations by a out of touch ruling administration !

How has assistant referee Dan Cook ended up with a Forest game so soon after his wrong offside call at Bournemouth a few weeks ago? Very poor

He didn't make a wrong offside call, Constantine Hatzidakis did. If you're going to complain about a wrong call at least get the right official.

LOL, not as if they look similar or have similar sounding names either 😂

A sensible one though.  You are hardly going to put someone on a playoff final who hasn't used VAR before.  That's not fair on the officials or the clubs.

Thought it might be Mike Dean, but last game for Moss so not unexpected.

And Craig Pawson. After reffing the F A Cup Final he’s back at Wembley as 4thO. With due respect I am sure somebody else could have done it

My understanding is that Moss lives in Halifax, which is less than 5 miles from Huddersfield.  I know that these geographical ties are no longer an issue but surely there would have been other referees available.

I understand that, but he could run from his house to the Huddersfield ground in less than an hour.  I just think this appointment could have been managed better.

This comes up time and time again.  When making referee appointments they do not pay attention to where the referee lives, it is now purely on who they support.

It always comes up whenever Liverpool have Anthony Taylor on twitter people moaning about it. In reality it doesn't matter and in fact Liverpool have a great record with him refereeing.

He used to work at a school in Halifax. He lives north of Leeds.
