General Discussion / Re: Paul Tierney - Chelsea vs Newcastle
« Last post by Whistleblower on Sun 15 Mar 2026 17:44 »
Rosenior really is living up to the ‘David Brent’ persona that so many people have tagged him with. Saying the players wanted to crowd round the ball to respect it; what a load of complete and utter tosh.

Rather refreshingly, a lot of fans on the radio phone in earlier, were actually on Tierneys side rather than Chelsea

By the way Rosenior is behaving he wouldn't recognise or experience respect if it reared up and bit him on the arse.

Well I needing have posted as Mr Marsden another bad game, missed an obvious red card for me but yellow was given. At some point I felt he couldn’t control the game for both teams he seems very indecisive on handing cards out wonder how he got marked but the assessor in attendance

Sounds like a standard performance. He was demoted in the olden days and now in the new age of things still gets decent games.

I’m baffled.
Mr Marsden was 4O in our NL play-off final v Boreham Wood suggesting that he was the second best referee in the NL behind Neil Hair that season. It was hard to see why, but that's when he got first elevated to the FL list.

And very quickly banished thereafter…

General Discussion / Re: Thomas Bramall - Crystal Palace vs Leeds

It’s never a second yellow it’s at best a soft foul. He’d have been far better playing advantage and letting palace get forward. Very messy not knowing who has been booked. One of the basics of refereeing!

I have had a go at trying to fix some of those issues

I'm now out of free tokens so can't do anything until they refresh on 27th March

Being even (Sorry!) older than Whistleblower, my gripe is with the over-familiarlity in the use of first names only. I can perhaps understand this in the NHS, where the importance of personal relations is significant and may comfort patients. I am a loss, though, to see why the Gas Board etc. choose to start communications with Hi + first name. Even less so when BT uses a similar form of address to me - Hi Margaret, given that I informed them sixteen years ago of my mother's death and that the account should be in my name.
When AT first adopted this process on here,I was inclined to think he knew all officials personally, but it seems he was merely ahead of his time. It now seems to be common practice. This aged leopard, though, will not be changing his spots, and will continue to use Mr, Miss, Mrs or, reluctantly, Ms.

I believe that’s an EFL debut for Emily Heaslip - with 2 games!

Crewe with Stephen Parkinson, who has already refereed this fixture last season, and Steven Copeland, who gave Crewe a penalty last season at home to Notts County which was ludicrous!

I'm hoping to see a better performance from Stephen Parkinson than when I last saw him at Crewe Alex.
Apologies for the use of the Old emoji, AT, it was uninentional.
The two games Mr Parkinson was in the middle for Rovers games, he has not impressed and made a KMI error missing handball in the build-up to the Milton Keynes goal
On the highlights footage, the Walsall opener looked well offside and the penalty call was as bad as the one Sam Mulhall gave for Oldham against Rovers in near identical circumstances. At least you had the small consolation of the keeper saving it.

Like I said, I was stood directly behind AR2 - he wasn’t in line. I shouted offside straight away

I Spy Old Refs! / Re: The Big Match Revisited
« Last post by JCFC on Sun 15 Mar 2026 16:32 »
Returning from my Sunday morning Miner's Benedict I caught the second one of this morning's repeats. Three thoughts occurred to me, one from each match featured.
1) I would not have recognised the much younger Allan Gunn.
2) The smart referee of the second match was referred to as Mr Dowling. Was this actually Colin Downey?
R) Having always believed that referees' attire used to be much smarter, I have to admit the Derek Civil, with open plunging V-neck and low-cut white vest looked an absolute mess.
