International Appointments / Re: UEFA Europa League 2025/2026
« Last post by bmb on Tue 27 Jan 2026 17:58 »
Maybe someone has finally listened and given them a break! 4 of them are away the following week at the UEFA elite camp, as referees - 2 have games, 2 don't.

Surprised there is only var involvement for the english contingent.
I guess that with only Oliver in the champions league final group games it probably says that our officials are not in favour with uefa.
I guess the pgmol going their own way on guidelines and interpretations doesnt help either.
Idk about that. Kavanagh got a nice few games in UCL considering he was only promoted a few weeks ago.
Taylor had a decent game last week and there is no elites in Europa league this week so brooks was only option and he had a game last week.

There are at least 4 referees with games this matchday that had games the previous matchday in the champions league so it doesnt preclude our officials from getting games on consecutive matchdays.

General Discussion / Re: M OLIVER - Fulham v Brighton.
« Last post by Seagull on Tue 27 Jan 2026 16:00 »
Flawless from Oliver. He glides through games with such calmness, whilst clearly having the respect of the players. To be fair, this was a very easy game to officiate, two teams who wanted to play football the right way, with no major flashpoints, but that shouldn’t detract from how brilliant Oliver was. For me, he’s head and shoulders clear as the best referee in SG1 and probably Europe.

As for the game, don’t think we have any Brighton correspondents on here, but if there is, sincere apologies. That was the biggest robbery since Brinks Mat!

I always assumed Seagull was a Brighton correspondent on this Forum but I may well be mistaken.

Here I am! My only comment is I wish Danny Welbeck had had shorter arms. Great winning goal for Fulham to be fair. Back to my chips!

Today’s match between Sri Lanka and England was due to be umpired by Tucker and Wimalasiri, however part through Englands innings Tucker was replaced by 4th Kottahachchi due to illness.

Cup Appointments / Re: The EFL Cup (Carabao Cup) – 2025/2026

Hope to see Bankes wearing black (or yellow if he absolutely must) for his SF, unlike Hooper in 1st leg who slightly clashed with the red for no good reason! Nothing wrong with his performance mind.

Good and deserved appointments. I had half a feeling they’d play it safe in Ars-Che with 1 of the 3 UEFA elites, but I’m glad to see other names.

Looks to me like Gillett with the final - outside chance for Jones, slither of a chance for Hooper?

In order of likelihood I would call it   Hooper, Gillett, Jones

Select Group - Premier League / Re: Sat 31st Jan - Mon 2nd Feb 2026

Great games for Hooper and Jones. Salisbury with another opportunity to impress at Forest and Robinson makes a return to the middle after what seems like a very long absence from the premier league.

Once again, I will bring up Michael Oliver’s appointments this time. It just seems silly to appoint him Saturday, and with the PGMO knowing he has a champions league appointment, then give him another Saturday game. Just seems poor man management to me.

Whoever is in charge of the appointments can't seem to do right for doing wrong on here.
If he was given a big Super Sunday fixture people would also bemoan that so soon after a CL game.
