Very poor Gudmondsson first yellow was soft and followed a clear shirt pull on him. I agree with all the previous comments about the second yellow. Gudmondsson now suspended for one game, no right of appeal. So should the referee be suspended. Completely inconsistent when it came to not giving the Palace player at least one second yellow. This is now three Leeds latest league games against Man City Sunderland and Crystal Palace when the referees have been very poor. At premiership level some of the officiating has not been good enough.

General Discussion / C Kavanagh Leeds v Fulham
« on: Sat 17 Jan 2026 18:24 »
In my opinion this was a poor performance by one of our elite referees. Inconsistent throughout and poor foul detection. Did nothing to prevent the Fulham goalkeeper from time wasting which he stopped with 3 minutes to go. LTwo incidents in the first half summed up his game. Free kick awarded against the Fulham player who booted the ball away some 20 yards preventing the free kick being taken. No yellow card, the Fulham player had already been cautioned. Not much later the whistle went, nobody sure what for, Ampadu picked the ball up threw it a short distance to a team mate for what he thought was a Leeds free kick. Apparently it was a free kick for Fulham and Ampadu was booked for throwing the ball away. A joke of a decision. Not impressed with C Kavanagh.

Two issues from John Brooks.
Firstly the penalty award to Brentford was very harsh and I think wrong not enough contact to make the attacker fall to the ground. Saved by VAR and the offside.
Secondly a penalty claim later for a pull on Calvert Lewin causing him to all to the ground not given. Much more obvious penalty than the first one.
Two very inconsistent decisions both wrong, IMO.

Questionable to appoint Langford to this game. Shocking decision.

Three perfectly good goals for Leeds he has ruled out for offside in the space of 8 weeks. Where is the accountability? I am finding it difficult to argue the case for officials amongst my friends tonight. I feel the Football League has a responsibility to make a statement about this situation. Another letter of apology to Leeds, the 7th this season is not enough. Once or twice against the same team in 8 weeks can be argued as incompetence, but 3 times needs explaining. He should be dropped for the rest of the season pending an investigation. But this won't happen. The Football League will hide their heads in the sand. Better judgement does not allow me to say what I really think

Another SG1 without VAR for Leeds. He has to be better than Robert Jones was on Sunday. His reward for not giving the blatant penalty is a premiership game. No accountability!

Shocking decision not to give an early penalty. He had a clear view. Premiership referees rely too much on VAR and should not be given games without VAR.

General Discussion / Re: Stuart Attwell - Leeds v Sunderland

Disagree with TA Ref the Cirkin hand ball was in front of me and his arm clearly moved away from his body to handle the ball. From 20 + yards away Mr Attwell was very quick to wave the penalty appeals away not giving the assistant who was in a much better position the chance to intervene.
Please do not make personal comments about other posters, thank you. bmb
Overall Mr Attwell was just OK and did not add any time on for blatant time wasting throughout the game, not that any other refs do.

Clear offside and easy to spot.

Gavin Ward at Elland Road on 31 August, when he was poor. Again this coming Saturday. Very bad appointment decision.

General Discussion / Gavin Ward Leeds v Hull
« on: Sat 31 Aug 2024 18:28 »
Was at the game Mr Ward was very disappointing and based on this performance not good enough at this level. Both sets of fans regularly  chanting your not fit to referee. The Yorkshire Evening Post football editor who is usually very fair gave him a generous 4/10 and commented. Inconsistent. Made some strange calls for both sides. Let some things go that should have been given, simply missed others. Which I agreed with.

At the game. Very good performance by Jarred, let the game flow and wasn't conned by diving. Best at Elland Road this season. Possibly one more yellow for a Norwich player. Video should be shown to all SG2 and some SG1's on how to referee a very important game.

Surprised at Donohies appointment. I thought he was poor at Elland Road last Saturday. The local sports editor who is usually fair and generous gave him 2/10!

General Discussion / Leeds v Blackburn James Bell

Second game in a few days at Elland Road where the referee has put in a substandard performance relating to blatant time wasting. I do not blame any team for breaking/bending the rules to their advantage if the referee is too weak to deal with it. The blatant, unpunished time wasting started from the first minute today and went virtually unpunished throughout the game. The Blackburn goalkeeper was finally cautioned in the 85th minute at least an hour late. 30+ seconds with the ball in his hands was the norm.
