General Discussion / Leeds v Blackburn James Bell
« on: Sat 13 Apr 2024 18:53 »
Second game in a few days at Elland Road where the referee has put in a substandard performance relating to blatant time wasting. I do not blame any team for breaking/bending the rules to their advantage if the referee is too weak to deal with it. The blatant, unpunished time wasting started from the first minute today and went virtually unpunished throughout the game. The Blackburn goalkeeper was finally cautioned in the 85th minute at least an hour late. 30+ seconds with the ball in his hands was the norm.

General Discussion / Re: Tim Robinson: Leeds v Sunderland
« on: Wed 10 Apr 2024 15:46 »
At the game and I agree with most of the comments. From where I was sat I find it difficult to accept Tim Robinson or Darren Cann did not see the second penalty call. The first penalty call should have been seen by Tim Robinson.

The referee in me keeps a stop watch on all games I watch. I am generally about right with added times on live and TV games but not last night. The first half had 1 added minute, I thought 3. Nothing added for time wasting. The second half I had 7 added minutes not 3. In the second half there were 5 yellow cards and 7 substitutes. 3 minutes not enough for this. Nothing added for blatant time wasting by the Sunderland goalkeeper and defence at goal kicks.  No-one spoken to about time wasting. In addition there were several times when  I timed in excess of 30 seconds when the Sunderland goalkeeper had control of the ball, ie in his hands. No action taken, so much for upholding the laws of the game. The Yorkshire Post reporter, who is usually very fair gave Tim Robinson 2/10 for his performance.

In my opinion I have seen too many games when SG1 referees have poor games in the Championship, as if it is beneath them.

The teams, supporters and the game deserve better performances than this from the officials.

General Discussion / Sam Allison Sheffield Wed v Leeds

A very good performance by Sam last night. Few if any mistakes, good fitness level, good communication with the players and let the game flow. Best performance I have seen in the championship this season.

General Discussion / David Webb Leeds v Preston
« on: Sun 21 Jan 2024 15:06 »
Just back home from the game.

Very disappointed by Mr Webbs performance today and I regard him as one of the better SG2 referees.

He was inconsistent throughout the game with his foul detection and use of yellow cards. His control was weak and he continually infuriated the fans and all the players. The Swansea Preston goalkeeper was time wasting throughout the game and after many warnings from Mr Webb he was finally booked after 75 minutes. This didn't stop his time wasting but I have never seen a goalkeeper get two yellows for this.  He did get the penalty decision correct a very clear and deliberate hand ball.

Overall a very poor performance and not good enough at this level.

Never a foul anywhere on the pitch. Where do they get these officials from. Very poor decision by VAR and the referee.

General Discussion / Re: Injury time - Leicester v Hull
« on: Sat 02 Sep 2023 18:29 »
I will put my post on added time here.

After watching many games so far this season and 5 games live I genuinely do not know what the instructions are for added time. Whatever they are they are being interpreted inconsistently.

At Elland Road today Dean Whitestone added only 2 minutes in the first half, I had 5 on my watch. Second half 4 minutes when I had 7 on my watch. It appeared today there was no time added for the unpunished time wasting by the Sheffield goalkeeper. There have been games when my watch was in agreement with the referees and in those games there was a large amount of added time.

Does anybody have an answer.

General Discussion / Re: Brooks - Newcastle v Liverpool
« on: Sun 27 Aug 2023 16:47 »
First, it should have been a free kick to Liverpool. Second how far did he actually throw the ball away, did it justify a yellow. Third, did foul by Alexander Arnold justify a yellow, probably. But, he didn't deserve 2 yellows. Badly handled by Brooks.

Definitely not a shirt pull or a trip and not a yellow. Minutes after a very clear shirt pull preventing an attack did not warrant a yellow!!!!!

General Discussion / Re: Leeds v West Brom - Matt Donohue
« on: Sat 19 Aug 2023 15:50 »
It was my concern when Leeds were relegated that we would be subject to the lower level SG2 performances. The first two games did not warrant my concern. Last night, however, did. Too much whistle, inconsistent decisions, 9 yellow cards some of which, for both sides were unnecessary. One bad foul in the game but didn't warrant a yellow possibly because the player had already received a soft yellow. The West Brom goal was a clear hand ball and should have been ruled out. My initial thoughts were that the "tackle" on Geldhart was a foul and, therefore, a penalty. In my opinion this was backed up by the video.

Most pundits and media thought this was a poor performance by Matt Donohue.

 Clear penalty, VAR poor again

Clear penalty. VAR in disrepute again.

Coote has never been one of our best officials. Mistake to give him this appointment.
