Barry Knight from Orpington (Kent) was a strong referee, who made it to the premier league, he did use to make me laugh in the early 2000’s because he was so unpredictable. Met him numerous times and did a line for him too. Just AI him and this is what they said
His refereeing style was often described by commentators and some managers as strict and card-heavy. Certain high-profile matches drew criticism from teams and pundits alike due to the number of bookings.
Premier League stats - 74 games 255 yellows 19 Reds
Roger Funindez as a terrible referee, same as Bill Baker, one that I really rated but never made it to the PL was Tony Leake from Darwin…. but I did like Terry Heilbron, the only non premier league referee to ever referee the League Cup Final - Tottenham v Leicester.

Woah an awful set of absolutely boring totally uninspiring appointments again !!
I would of gone for: Man U v Man C - Oliver Chelsea v Brentford - Brooks Leeds v Fulham - Kirk Liverpool v Burnley - Pawson Sunderland v C Palace - Sainsbury Tottenham v W Ham - Bankes N Forest v Arsenal - Gillett Wolves v Newcastle - Taylor Aston V v Everton - Harrington Brighton v Bournemouth - Donahue
There is a set of more refreshing appointments giving rising stars a chance.

As Iv stated on numerous occasions those new breed robotic refs are imo not good enough for SG1 status, a trend seems to happen where by first half minimal cautions happen, then in the second half we see 4/5/6 all the time, it’s far too lobsided, on contrib/panal go back 7-15 years ago, if you had 0 first half and 5/6 second half majority of time the observer would focus on the lob sided balance and how could you of prevented that in the 2nd half. Bram I personally don’t like as a referee, one would hope people develop their own style

Well done Referee Hooper, correct caution for dissent administrating justice of a red card for a clear show of dissent. Following on from the very impressive Referee Kirk the other night, I hope all SG1 / SG2 officials are taking note of those two shinging lights above, and attempt to eradicate acts of dissent out of the game. This is the expectation we want to see.

A very bad first 5 minutes from referee Pawson. Late one on Matty Cssh and no word given to the player making the foul. Then Paulinho goes through Kamera, a clear mandatory yellow and nothing given ! Kamera badly injured and has to go off, Darren Cann agreed prob was a yellow, I was always trained that fouls which cause injury need to be sanctioned. I am shocked referee Pawson didn’t even have a word…. Shows the decline he is on this season tbh

But remember he was sent to the screen by a one of the 3 senior referees in England, Referee Kavanagh, so in your 2nd game you’re not going to say na Kav not for me. And there is a presedance now where by if someone yanks someone hair it’s a red card.
24 hours after this game I’m still buzzing for Kirk, his layed down a marker now, one where by he could elevate himself on and upwards, he just must come back for his 3rd game in the PL and maintain that consistency!

Unlike Mr Kirk who was excellent, just having seen the highlights of Referee Bramall that was a hugely poor decision not to award the pen in real time. An SG1 referee should be calling that, not waiting and seeing. When Webb was head of MLS refs they were r couraged to make real time calls, brave calls. Maybe webb needs to put people annual retainer on getting decisions correct and if VAR bail you out you start losing a % of your yearly bonus !! Make it KMI dependant, your start date o see the correct calls being made live. Bramall now similar to Barrott going through one of those ruts at present and could do with a Kirk like game, where he sinks his teeth into it

I watched the whole game and Kirk was superb !!! Refreshing to see strong decisive refereeing, not being swayed by a big crowd and more of a high profile player sanctioning red too !! Excellent..:: how refreshing, refs like Barrott / future young refs wanting to come through the system, referee Kirk showed how it should be done !! They all need to take note, because Kirk now has done something that use to be done years ago, he has layed a mark down for future respect, because people will think twice about giving the mouth to referee Kirk in the future. Honestly gave me a buzz to see such strong refereeing. Other red was clear Keane with a clear yank of his opponents hair.

Vintage masterclass from Referee Gillett who yet again shows absolute class in his way of refereeing. Makes it look simple.

Actually yes I agree - Liverpool v Everton - Derby, Barrott in fact was ooor, and allowed so much cynical play to go without caution etc.
All I am saying is that he’s really sinking at the moment, and is a fight to attempt to regain something, because at the moment he is not looking promising at all imo.

But my point is we are allowing referee Barrott excuses time after time with the errors he is making ! Surely enough is enough now. He showed good strong form 12 months ago, Arsenal / Man U - Everton / Liverpool - West Ham v Chelsea, good strong refereeing in those games, but since then he really has gone downhill.

Chris did ok, he did look tired imo, but what do you expect when PGMO appointing a ref 48 hours after their last one, surely many others who have had 0 games could of done today’s
When will PGMO tell their refs to deal with time wasting? Stick 2/3 cards up each team who do it and the practise will soon eradicate, all this over management is quite frankly embarrassing. Or if close score add 7/8/9 minutes of stoppage time on again at the end and this will stop.

Well said @ El referee !! If action was not taken to avoid any reprocussuions and then the football world gone mental. I don’t think in my 38 years I have ever seen a mass con last this long with 0 cards shown ! And a referee looking awfully weak out there in the middle, Jonathan bench side assistant looked alert ! Switched on ..: but Russell oooked totally overwhelmed, and when you got fans calling it out on twitter with things like “not even 1 yellow shown” you just cringe for Referee Russell. For me there was 4 yellows and 1 defo red there, but then also Ainsworth Gills Manager prob deserved the red for starting it all off.

But the key point is like a judge and jury - the jury have voted referee Barrott WRONG ! How many more mistakes are we to allow him ?? His operating on one or the best leagues in this world, so to be in privilege of this honour of being a PL referee means he should be judged and called out when making mistakes. IMO similar in o Attwell many years ago his been pushed far too quickly
