Referee Herczeg I witnessed 2/3 seasons ago one of the worst play off final referee performances at Wrexham where he had no control and lost the players, never felt he was up to SG2 standard but that my opinion.

Alex Chilowicz ex MLS Prem Ref, excellent referee surely with Webb his old boss, it won’t be long before his on a PL trial game …

Come on let’s not go overboard, calling his performance excellent …. It’s was satisfactory.

Mandatory yellows missed 2-3 imo- the pull back by mcbernie on Jordinho first half was blatant yellow.

His handling of the wild foul on Martinelli which was a yellow looked like he was weak as the players came running in, could have been red.

I never felt like he was protecting of the arsenal players vs the wild fouls Sheffield Utd were putting in.

I didn’t get the feeling that if a game turns tough the players will respect him just yet.

As someone just said, he has done ok so far, but the games are being chosen very carefully.

A really good post arbitre anglais, I agree it is now about flying the diversity flag …. Which great it’s good for a overhall of the old system !

But majority of those refs now pushed super quick, and where by we use to have the cream of refereeing floating in the premier league, it’s now more the top 2 (Tay and Oliver) and then the rest which range from good to poor ! But I’m comfortable with that, but by no means do we have a crop of excellent officials

Weekend observations
Harrington - excellent spot for red, without VAR ! Just the way things should be.
Too many PL refs go yellow and fail to actually be referees.

Kavanagh- awful cup final performance missed imo, 2/3 yellow missed in first ten minutes, failed to let players know where the line was.

Awful tackle in the first half not even punished with yellow.

Positive - magnificent spot by Scholes to spot the offside onfield for the no goal in the first half

Lewis smith needs to be stronger this week, no hiding ground for him !!! He needs to deal with time wasting / and add the appropriate pl added time on for it …6/7 minutes… Also he needs to jump on the mandatory cards for tackles early snd set his stall out from the off !!

6
Madley was very very weak on the constant dissent !!! The mandate is there this season to Card for it in the PL, a ref who never convinces me on dissent !!
His brother Rob is by far a much better referee.

Other than that a standard job ! But ok

General Discussion / Re: L SMITH - Fulham v Villa

Sadly Lewis smith now joins Rebecca welsh on the list of not up to PL level, he has been rushed through.

Put it this way it’s his first PL game and he changes his whole normal style from FL games which is a strong strict hand, he changed his style to letting it flow. Big mistake, it’s his first game players know this and won’t respect him he needs to be tough and strong and sadly this was not the case today.

Missed a few second yellows for dissent, if he gets another chance he needs to revert to his Fl style …. But the PGMO gamble has not worked !

Bra mall did well in a tough game, 9 yellow 1 red … playe a didnt seem to help him so he consistently gave the card.

Only negative should have seen clear pen and worse case VAR should have got involved it was not a subjective decision to have to take. So VaR needed to get involved

General Discussion / Re: S ATTWELL - Sheff U v Brighton
« on: Sun 18 Feb 2024 14:34 »
Very bad from Attwell to not see that as a straight red tackle, the slight delay made me feel he didn’t have seen the tackle and went more with reaction.
Well done Oliver for making the process easy and telling Attwell, but again another PL referee not making a big straight red decision and going with yellow.

Surely Webb and his team should be finding this a concern ?

I agree I think Josh smith beddd to go back to what made him a decent SG2 ref, this slightly lower profile doesn’t suit his games imo

General Discussion / Bournemouth v Forest - Rebecca Welch
« on: Sun 04 Feb 2024 15:25 »
Oh Welsh !! Very Poor… Kluivert has to go, people on Twitter up in arms, clear 2nd yellow missed and kluivert substituted straight away.

Sadly Welsh has been pushed through this fast track system far too quickly ! Has barely bedded in at Championship level !

Edited to correct spelling of refs name in title! bmb

General Discussion / Liverpool v Norwich - Samuel Barrott
« on: Sun 28 Jan 2024 15:40 »
47th minute - missed yellow - stonewall Liverpool player should of seen yellow for stopping promising attack - pulled back, all Norwich players expected it, but nothing from Barrott - that was extremely poor, was not even a subjective one !!!

13
Poor from Salisbury having seen his recent games his trying to allow more to go and keep game flowing but all that is happening is flash point decisions and the shocking tackle from Brewster which he has to give as red himself if he thought that was only yellow was amazing !!

Another SG1 ref that could do with getting his card out more to gain control of players that after 5-10 game run will see him given more on field respect, I fear players don’t know Salisbury benchmark

14
Very poor from England imo, 2/3 missed yellows in first half, missed Red for Bristol City player for the slap /punch round the head of the West Ham player - blame equally on Steve Martin would of loved to of known what he said. I feel England now needs to be less reluctant to show the card if in doubt but his SFP detection has been awful over the last 2/3 years

Mark my words
Alex Chilowicz - MLS Prem Ref who just relocated to UK will be in PL by next season ! Webb has him over him now, starting off with x2 FL games… did 4th man today at Milton Keynes.
