Think the referee has been well and truly chucked under the bus by his AR1 or 4th official here. Very clear that he didn't see it happen himself so obviously someone has come in with advice over the comms.
AR1 Danny Guest ......... perhaps he did !

Thank you for your concern, sir. Last Saturday all matches in the NPL East were called off - even on the artificial pitch at BPA. Nothing within reach midweek, so nothing to report, other than early nights. This weekend is the next round of the Vase and I shall be attending a match this afternoon. The late postponement of one tie also opens the prospect of a possible further Vase fixture next weekend - if the bank balance can stand it. As for the Caribbean, no chance. If I ever get to go abroad again, for me it's Germany every time.
Not to mention the even later abandonment of another, now being played on Sunday afternoon as apparently a groundshare tenant's step 4 match takes priority on Saturday.

I have a slight bit of Sympathy for Michael Keane as I don't think it was meant as act of Violence, unlike the Jack Stephens and Romero incidents on Cucurella, however the precedent has been set, you'll pull some one by the hair it's a red card.
Grealish can have no complaints its one of the most blatant acts of dissent I've seen and Tom Kirk needs to be applauded for dealing with it correctly.
Hopefully he is backed by the PGMOL and has another premier league game sooner rather than later.
wasn't that just the problem ?

I'm a bit of an outlier on here regarding opinions on David Webb and I'm afraid that performance was exactly what I expected from him.

See Steve Evans is the new Bristol Rovers head coach. I am sure EFL officials feel Christmas has come early. 😂
They have the authority and tools to deal with the obnoxious behaviour of Evans and Raynor. The fact that they, mostly, choose not to, means they only have themselves to blame.

Having seen the highlights of this match late yesterday evening, I was intrigued by the sending off of a PNE defender just before half time. For those who didn't see it, the scenario was a Coventry forward through on goal being chased closely by the defender who deliberately pulled the attacker back by his shirt just outside the penalty area. The forward managed to make further progress into the penalty area, despite still being pulled back and manhandled. Inside the penalty area, he then falls to the ground.
My question is this. Was Mr. Toner right to bring play back, award a free kick just outside the penalty area and issue a DOGSO red card (which is what he did), or could he/should he have awarded a penalty kick and issued a yellow card (there being no attempt by the defender to play the ball)? I would say both decisions are supportable but which, if either, is the more correct and in line with LOTG or any protocols/interpretations?
Surely if no attempt to play the ball it's red anyway?

I feel that referees are reluctant to give second yellows for offences that during the match leads to a first yellow. It's almost as if they are giving the player one final chance. However, this generally doesn't apply to mandatory cards like delaying the restart because the referee has no option. I haven't seen this incident today, it feels wrong but there are different interpretations of what delaying the restart means. Was a restart realistic for example. I understand that sending a player off has implications but the laws are there, players have no excuses and shouldn't be given a get out of jail card.
Indeed, four times in the first half the Coventry right sided player was allowed to walk/jog slowly some 75 yards from the right touchline to take a long throw on the left and then allowed even more time to prepare for the throw One such throw took over a minute from ball out of play to the throw happening. He then added a woefully inadequate 1 min extra time. This suited Ipswich but again showed our top referees can't be relied on to do the simple stuff right. Strangely this didn't happen in the second half when Coventry were behind. With multi-ball and one stationed right near the goalkeeper neither incident would have delayed the restart to any great extent. He allowed himself to be surrounded by a group of Coventry players clearly not observing the captain only rule without taking any action - perhaps he was feeling a bit guilty about his latest inconsistency. I thought he was poor throughout. Inconsistent with his foul awards, inconsistent with his sanctions. By contrast, the two SG1 Assistants looked head and shoulders above what we've mainly had this season.

A bit of a rogue one from me.
There seems to be an AR who two seasons ago was aligned to the SG2 set of AR’s. Adam Crysell? Pretty sure he was operating at this level two years ago but seems to have disappeared. Anyone got an idea what happened to him.
Dropped off the list this season.

Mr Duckworth’s early career reviews on this forum were never particularly strong, with many describing him as “not quite there” or “manufactured.” Unfortunately, his performance at a cold London Road last night reflected those views.
He allowed an experienced Stevenage side to manage him throughout—slowing the game down, committing tactical fouls, and repeatedly going down for treatment. On each occasion, Mr Duckworth appeared to conduct his own medical assessment before calling the physio, consistently falling for the “dark arts” that Stevenage employed.
He began well, correctly cautioning a Stevenage player for a cynical early foul despite protests. However, from that point on his decision-making lacked consistency. Mandatory cautions for clear pull-backs were ignored, with the next yellow cards instead given for dissent, as frustration grew on what was a foul and a caution.
The biggest inconsistency came with two penalty decisions: one rightly awarded to Stevenage, but a very similar incident at the other end not given for Peterborough. These things can happen, but what was most frustrating was his management of set pieces. In a match already slowed to a crawl, he took nearly four minutes over each free kick—setting the wall, lecturing every player, checking the ball, then returning to the wall. The minimal added time was, frankly, farcical. Posh probably wouldn’t have broken down Stevenage regardless, but the handling was poor.
On the positive side, he covered the pitch well and tried to play advantages where possible. But on this showing, he appears to need more experience before progressing further up the ladder, as he was thoroughly outmanoeuvred by seasoned professionals.
I've seen that sort of performance about a dozen times this season. They're really turning out this type of official !

Andrew Miller, an EFL debut?
Will Finnie with his first league game on his return to action.
Andrew Miller, I believe he's the son of former EFL favourite (for some) Nigel Miller.
David Rock returns to Crewe Alex, and fortunately Cambridge are not the opposition. I hope to be there to see him.
Nigel Miller regularly featured on RTR reports… most of them were fairly unsatisfactory in nature.
No the reports were fine; it was the refereeing that was, mainly, unsatisfactory.

It is a problem trying to decide who should be penalised. Both players are at it. You cannot win as a referee. My suggestion is to book both of them, retake corner. Just my opinion of course. Can you stop the game to caution and then re-start with a corner kick if the corner has already been taken? My understanding is; as soon as the ball is kicked the ball is live in play so it would either be a free kick or a penalty kick.
Fixed the quote thingamajigga, bmb
If the "offence" take place before the ball is in play, but the referee only decides to penalise said offence after the ball is in play then the correct restart (after the disciplinary action) is to retake the corner.
Or am I missing something??
Don't think you are, sounds reasonable to me. Even if the offence continues after the ball has been kicked into play.

Continues at St James Park. A clear foul and penalty for the late tackle on Phil Foden. What is Craig Pawson looking at?
There's an unwritten rule that they are never given once the attacker has got their shot away, they are very rarely given. That isn't just an England thing, it happens at senior levels of football all over the world.
Perhaps someone should write down all the unwritten rules so players and spectators know what to expect.

Really happy with Abigail Byrne. I will be there to watch the six pointer match between Port Vale and Plymouth. I saw Abigail once last season and I thought Abi was the best referee at Vale Park last season. Just no nonsense!
I used to think she was probably as good as any of the female refs, but the last game I saw her was particularly disappointing with two red cards, in seperate incidents, both overturned on appeal.
