Southend United FC (First Team) v Gateshead FC (First Team) Live on DAZN National League - Premier Referee: Drysdale, Darren Assistant Referee: Cook, Daniel Assistant Referee: Chaplin, Isabel Fourth Official: Carter, Richard
Injury to Darren Drusdale in the warm up meant that Rich Carter took the middle. Usually an AR specialist but performed well throughout and no complaints from any fans. Fan took 4th. I did try and volunteer but wasn't quick enough.
Did you read the post immediately before yours ?

Southend United FC (First Team) v Gateshead FC (First Team) Live on DAZN National League - Premier Referee: Drysdale, Darren Assistant Referee: Cook, Daniel Assistant Referee: Chaplin, Isabel Fourth Official: Carter, Richard
Was looking forward to seeing Mr Drysdale but never worked out seen him warm up and then just before kick off PA came on Asked for a qualified referee a Southend Fan came forward to do the boards which meant FO Richard Carter Become the man in the middle he was very good fair and got most calls spot on I think Darren had a back injury from away club officials that were in the away end best wishes to Darren
The fourth official duties were initially performed by a referee assessor/observer. One of Southend's female stewards took over the role after a little while. Richard Carter did pretty well. Might have given both teams a penalty, gave neither so consistent.

I have read something similar before, that Kevin Friend says they should have had 2 penalties. I find it unsettling that this is made public. Has he seen replays? Has the referee agreed? Indeed, was the referee in a position to see the incident? I agree that a couple of possible penalties were denied Ipswich, but at least 1 could be a 50:50 call. Did the Ipswich manager go on the pitch to remonstrate with the referee or at least initially to move his players away?
This is the third reported apology to be received by Ipswich from PGMOL this season. I don't think they should be doing that.

Here is a screenshot of Busby’s escort.
To put it into perspective, all referees get 1-2 security officers escorting them as a regular procedure.
Surely better to have too much security than too little. In over 50 years attending Portman Road, I've never seen the crowd so angry with a referee.

I think this performance from Busby may be slightly better than when we played Preston (H) but still not a good standard.
As much as I am an Ipswich fan, I hope McKenna gets suspended because that was ridiculous. I saw Busby being physically pulled by several Pitch Protection Security members and that is unheard of at Ipswich.
Why do you hope McKenna gets suspended? At the end of the match the first thing he did was shake hands with the Leicester management team. Then unusually he approached the referee. McKenna rarely approaches referees at the whistle but did so on this occasion and says Busby pulled him to one side to outline his position on the incident. “He was pulling me over for a chat on the side just to get away from the bodies,” the Blues manager continued. “There was no aggression between myself and the referee on that. “Of course, there was frustration, but we pulled away from the bodies because there were a lot of people around and he explained that he didn’t see the incident. That’s all that was.” If anyone should be suspended from their job, it is whoever made the ridiculous decision to send him back to Portman Road so soon after an absolutely appalling performance such a short while ago.

All 3 on-field officials (Sorry Deano) have been in the PL and are definitely promotion contenders for being in the PL next season!
Excellent from Lewis Smith, and my word, I know I have good attention to detail but Alex James was perfect. He was extremely good with everything he seemed to do. Composed, calm, his positioning was great for corners, free kicks and in general. Definitely one for the PL next season.
Assuming he was the one running the line in front of me (bench side), he wasn't perfect. He was better than most though. He missed one offside, second half which fortunately came to nothing. As for positioning being great for corners, I could do that - on the half way line if it's up the othe end, behind the flag in line with the touchline if it's my end. Didn't look great when he put his arm round a Hull player for some reason. The other distant Assistant was far busier and seemed from my poor vantage point to be getting things pretty much right too. Happy to see any, or all, of the four officials back at Portman Road in the future. Wish I could say the same about Saturday's perverse appointment.

A very accomplished performance by Lewis Smith in this big game at the top of the table. There were not a lot of incidents of note but I didn’t overly disagree with many decisions throughout.
Let the game breathe a fair amount and the level of physicality he let go reflected that. He didn’t let any challenges get too out of hand and the game was well in his control. All cautions were correctly administered - refreshing to see both goalkeepers booked for delaying the restart. No KMI’s of note but he officiated the game well.
Unfortunately, this was a game that sort of reflects all that’s wrong with modern football. 3rd vs 4th, under the Tuesday night lights and should be an absolute cracking game of football between two great footballing teams. Except one team rocks up and decides to play a low block… This made for quite a dull encounter where Ipswich showed very little interest of fast attacking football and Hull showed very little interest to attack at all. At least the side who had more of the ball and showed a bit more attacking intent won the game with an excellent 20 yard strike. It was a rather disappointing game if I’m being honest but 3 points for Ipswich is all I care for as a supporter.
"Low block" seems to be the new acceptable expression for parking the bus, defending deep and trying to take as much time out of the game as possible by fair means or foul. On that last point Lewis Smith was too slow to deal with it and their keeper's caution on 62 minutes could/should have come much, much earlier. Hull got what they deserved for their negativity and lack of ambition, although a couple more cards could have gone their way. Notwithstanding his tolerance of Hull's negativity, Lewis Smith had a good match. I sometimes think referees don't mind a 10-15 second break every now and again but the paying customers do! Unlike you, even as an Ipswich supporter, my cares for the game extend beyond how many points they get.

Aaron banister for our game at Solihull moors which I’ll be at seen Aaron before, and anyone seen Darren drysdale live as not seen him live as we have him at Roots hall on the Tuesday night which I’ll be at
Plenty will have, as he's refereed well over 500 matches ! This will be his 17th Southend match, all bar one when they were a Football League side. A few have been very good, most at least okay and just a couple of disappointing ones.

Zac Kennard kettle not even close to being as good as his father , totally inconsistent, even a clear error in law , 10 yellow cards in a game without a bad tackle from either side. 11 if you count the one for Tom cleverley which he gave for dissent after making a clear error in law , whilst I never condone dissent it’s pointless and gives the referee another decision to make. I hope I never ever see this guy again . And hope he reflects on his very inconsistent performance.
Wow, this sounds exactly like his father: inconsistent, errors in law, too many cards - talk about a chip off the old block. Dad must be very proud of him.

I think most people in the football world would say it’s a terrible decision. As a certain Mr Neville would say “There’s a smell of the game…”. I don’t like this decision either but when you consider it objectively there is some sort of reasoning behind it.
Firstly, the point of contact - it’s up on the back of the ankle on the Achilles area
Secondly, excessive force(?) - obviously there’s no intent and completely accidental but the Juventus player has jumped high off the ground to win the ball so when he comes back down to the ground, he’s coming down with force. Rather than land on the ground, he lands on the Gala players ankle/achilles which is seriously going to hurt. The weight/force coming down from a jump is quite large and that has to be a consideration.
As I said, I seriously don’t like the decision but I can kind of see the reasoning. An onfield decision of Yellow Card I could accept but to be a straight red feels rather harsh.
Excessive force from jumping too high? The games gone! Running too fast or kicking the ball too hard will be next!

Big games for Young at Southend and Kettle at Scunthorpe.
Good derby match for Wright at Huddersfield.
Thankfully not.

Over the last 40 years the two clubs have met 28 times and there hasn't been a single away win!
It goes on much longer than that! Last time Blackpool won a match at Bolton was 19th December 1959! Last time Bolton won a match away at Blackpool was almost as long ago: 10th September 1960
Now that's a stat for a pub quiz!
Why have you discounted Blackpool's 3-1 win at Bolton on 31st March 1986
