I think Craig Pawson has been excellent. He has let the game flow and his calm refereeing style has been well received by both teams.

General Discussion / Re: Tony Harrington - Aston Villa vs Everton« on: Sun 18 Jan 2026 17:59 »
I think Harrington has been very hit and miss today. For example, how is Garner still on the pitch? On a yellow and clearly pushes Rogers two handed in the back and Harrington plays on.
A lot of fouls and he doesn’t seem to pull players aside to have a quick word. It’s either nothing or a yellow card. Just my thoughts. 3
General Discussion / Re: Simon Hooper - Chelsea v Arsenal (EFL Cup)« on: Wed 14 Jan 2026 20:49 »
I think he has been fantastic. I really rate Simon as a referee. Just so clam but in full control. The players have trust in his refereeing style.

I like Pawson as a referee. But, I don’t think it was his finest 90 minutes. Missed a few cautions in my opinion.
No need for the scenes at the end. But, I think that also happens as the game has not been overly well officiated. 5
General Discussion / Fulham v Chelsea Peter Bankes« on: Wed 07 Jan 2026 19:57 »
I think he got the free kick and red card spot on.
Chelsea players should be ashamed of themselves. To have three players booked for dissent when it’s a clear foul and red card is just crazy. Also, the Fulham manger needs to learn a bit of respect too. I think Bankes is a very underrated official. 6

Port Vale v Blackpool - Ed Duckworth
A very interesting game, Blackpool went one up and in complete control of the game. However, just before half time Blackpool had a player sent off. For me it was not a red card. At most a yellow but Port Vale players got around Mr Duckworth and the Port Vale player rolled around on the floor. Second half Port Vale came out and battered Blackpool with the man advantage. I have to say two of the goals were very contentious; one for me a clear push and the other a clear foul in the corner before the cross came in. I’m not sure how to sum up Mr Duckworth’s performance. I would say on the whole one big decision that in my opinion was incorrect had a massive impact on the rest of the game. If I were a Port Vale fan I’d be over joyed but; if I were a Blackpool fan very frustrated with the referee. Seen Mr Duckworth has had some Championship appointments; after today’s showing I’m not sure he is at that level. 7

I watched Bristol Rovers Vs Bromley on Sky Sports. I thought Jacob Miles was excellent and got the big decision correct in the game: the second yellow card for a Bristol Rovers player. I like his no nonsense style of refereeing.
Jacob Miles has refereed 21 games with 87 yellows and 8 reds. 8
General Discussion / Re: B Toner - Birmingham V Derby« on: Fri 26 Dec 2025 15:18 »
I thought Ben Toner handled the game very well. He is a referee who likes to let a bit of contact go. Don’t think Derby can argue with the red card for them. What was he thinking to pick up a caution for time wasting and then to bring the Birmingham player down on the attack Ben Toner had no choice. I think the talking point is; should Birminghams number 4 had been sent off earlier in the match? For me, I thought it was a foul and should had come with a yellow card. He was correct to straight red card the Birmingham 4 for a very high foot on the Derby player.
The penalty… interesting… the Birmingham player is backing into the Derby defender. Some say penalty others say 50/50 and play on. On the whole I thought Ben Toner was clam and in full control. As a times you could feel the game heat up. 9

I agree with you.
The dissent and surrounding of referees is only getting worse. I think they need to bring in the sin bin rule like in grassroots. I have used it a few times this season as a level 5 referee. It works so well. A shame that players want to miss 10 minutes and have a £12 fine. 10

See Steve Evans is the new Bristol Rovers head coach. I am sure EFL officials feel Christmas has come early. 😂

I have seen Jacob Miles referee a few times and have always been impressed. I’m not surprised he has had Championship appointments this season.
He is a no nonsense referee. 12

Sorry OllieBCAFC I have to disagree with you. IMO if penalties are being given for that then football is in a dark place. The Bradford player has felt minor contact and throws himself to the floor. IMO it’s a very poor decision and a decision that could get a manger his P45. I thought there was a contact with consequence in decision making?
I watched the game on Sky Sports Plus and don’t support either team but felt sorry for Plymouth. Would be interesting to see that offside decision again. That’s just my opinion but I do fully respect your view too OllieBCAFC 13

Would love him to book Bruno Fernandes for dissent. He keeps chipping away at every decision Andrew Kitchen makes.

General Discussion / Re: An Interesting Afternoon: Sat 22/11/25« on: Sun 23 Nov 2025 09:08 »It is a problem trying to decide who should be penalised. Both players are at it. You cannot win as a referee. My suggestion is to book both of them, retake corner. Just my opinion of course. Can you stop the game to caution and then re-start with a corner kick if the corner has already been taken? My understanding is; as soon as the ball is kicked the ball is live in play so it would either be a free kick or a penalty kick. Fixed the quote thingamajigga, bmb 15

I really don’t understand… Newcastle vs Man City. A corner to Man City is taken the ball is in play, then the referee blows up to call the players who are wrestling with each other for a chat. He re-starts play with a corner to Man City. He blew when the ball had been kicked so surely it’s either a free kick or penalty kick. Or, am I missing something?
