Interesting that the Assistant didn't flag it.

With comms equipment these days you can’t be so sure about the lack of input to a decision. I’m sure that two or three of the officials will have been asking “did the Birmingham player really just handle the ball thinking it is a goal kick ?”.

I believe that’s an EFL debut for Emily Heaslip - with 2 games!

Crewe with Stephen Parkinson, who has already refereed this fixture last season, and Steven Copeland, who gave Crewe a penalty last season at home to Notts County which was ludicrous!

With a FIFA badge too?

With her fifa badge being in the women’s game, I don’t think so. I don’t recall Kirsty Dowle or Abi Bryne having their fifa badges on during efl games, but I can be corrected.

In recent seasons the FIFA badge for the women's game is only seen in the PL. There must be an EFL rule in relation to that.

Just been watching that. Sky have been doing a bit more in terms of refereeing in the EFL this season.

As a warning for some on this board, he does mention a couple of times “We’ll be in yellow”.

Darren Drysdale, a solid enough referee on his day, has been on the National List ( or whatever it's called these days ) since 2004. This must be a record. I believe he is the only current serving referee who appears in Upton which was published in 2005. Drysdale has been involved in one or two very controversial incidents in his career but his longevity is remarkable and to be celebrated.

Not quite consecutive years as he wasn't on the list for the 2009/10 season. He was promoted to the AR list in 1996 and was also on the FIFA AR list. Agree, 30 years around that level is some acheivement.

General Discussion / Re: Lewis Smith - Burton v West Ham

Like Hallam yesterday I think he's been absolutely fantastic. Another referee who has to be in SG1 next season. I can't for the life of me think of a reason for why he hasn't had a trial game yet this season. Composed and consistent throughout.

Now that he is in the Supplementary Select Group I can only assume that he is behind Farai Hallam and Tom Kirk. Having seen Hallam and Kirk a couple of times this season I can quite understand why. There was certainly a potential SFP incident Lewis Smith missed at Middlesbrough earlier in the season.

Darren England was quite dismissive of a VAR intervention last season at Fulham for a penalty in relation to handball. I can’t comment on the handball itself today as that is beyond confusing these days but England and Sam Barrott were both on VAR duty for this match. Is it possible that they can both be incorrect on this incident?

Two safe pairs of hands in Charles Breakspear and Ben Atkinson for Colchester this week.

A little strange to see David Webb get back to back trips below the Championship. Top games for Howard, Duckworth, J Oldham, Corlett and Parkinson.

And a Double Dosage of Dutton for David at Doncaster!

I believe that it is almost two years since David Webb has been seen below Championship level. He has had a few fourth official appointments so it isn't as though he has been out of action.

Swindon have been charged by the EFL and FA.

In addition to the teamsheet issues, they also played Oliver Clarke who was serving a seven match suspension. Presumably they thought the EFL Trophy wasn't a match included in that suspension.

General Discussion / Re: Anthony Backhouse- Hull vs Watford

Apparently it’s the surrounding areas of the pitch says Hull twitter. The pitch itself is fine
Yeah, saw that. Be interesting to see what they define as the surrounding areas, as its player rather than fan safety they’re concerned with

From this, the area just outside the field of play.

Both clubs have been charged by the FA although no sign of individual charges issued to the players/staff as seen in the Bristol City v Millwalll incident last month.

James Bell immediately sprinted to the incident so he was obviously aware that it was something that could spark a reaction from the opposition. I guess we’ll never know if it was Mr Bell or one of the other officials that convinced him that it was only a yellow.

I can't see Michael Salisbury ever refereeing Preston North End over the last 10 seasons, as that's where he is from i think, sounds like he could potentially be a PNE fan?

Tom Bramall has never officiated either Sheffield Utd or Sheffield Wednesday so maybe safe to say he supports one of these
Michael is from Penwortham, which is a Prenton postcode. So he won’t be down to officiate Preston. No idea who he supports though.

The postcode rule was binned 6/7 years ago.

The one place I thought I was safe from the 6/7 meme, it rears it's ugly head! ;)

Make the most of it, it won't be long before bmb updates the postcode rule to 7/8 years to copy and paste each time someone queries Anthony Taylor's appointment to a Manchester club !

David Webb has round two of Millwall vs Bristol City.

Michael Barlow for Crewe. It will be his second visit to Crewe, after coming in September for the vertu trophy against Chesterfield - a 7-1 win for us. More of the same please!!

And it will be a completely different atmosphere as well. From around 1000 in the vertu trophy to potentially over 8000 on Friday night. Crewe have reduced their ticket prices and are hoping to fill the stadium.

Michael Barlow and Matthew Moss will have the “honour” of officiating the first match of the new Bristol Rovers management team, Steve Evans and Paul Raynor.
