Barry Knight from Orpington (Kent) was a strong referee, who made it to the premier league, he did use to make me laugh in the early 2000’s because he was so unpredictable. Met him numerous times and did a line for him too. Just AI him and this is what they said
His refereeing style was often described by commentators and some managers as strict and card-heavy. Certain high-profile matches drew criticism from teams and pundits alike due to the number of bookings.
Premier League stats - 74 games 255 yellows 19 Reds
Roger Funindez as a terrible referee, same as Bill Baker, one that I really rated but never made it to the PL was Tony Leake from Darwin…. but I did like Terry Heilbron, the only non premier league referee to ever referee the League Cup Final - Tottenham v Leicester.
It could be a typo or it could be not knowing the place, however, Tony Leake was from Darwen which is near Blackburn in Lancashire and not Darwin which is a long, long way away.
And in the Dec-Feb months, Darwin would easily be more than 40C warmer than Darwen 😂

Where is the “glancing nature” of Dalot’s challenge written/interpreted in the Laws of the Game? I’ve looked on the IFAB website and law 12 for SFP indicates Serious foul play
A tackle or challenge that endangers the safety of an opponent or uses excessive force or brutality must be sanctioned as serious foul play.
Any player who lunges at an opponent in challenging for the ball from the front, from the side or from behind using one or both legs, with excessive force or endangers the safety of an opponent is guilty of serious foul play. Whilst I agree the second paragraph doesn’t apply, the first most certainly does. Any challenge where contact is made by the studs on the opponents knee would, imo, endanger the opponent. This is taking nothing from Un*ted, they were by far the better team and deserving of their win

Finally caught the highlights and of the "contentious" decisions, I think Tom Kirk got them all spot on. Why Keane feels the need to pull someone's hair is beyond me, and he can have no complaints whatsoever.
A deserved YC to Moyes for his reaction, and then a hilarious second yellow for Grealish for applauding when Tom had given the foul his way. A bizarre collective head loss from Everton, and one I think Tom can really be proud of for the way he dealt with that.

I reckon Jarred Gillett has to be in with a very good shout of the Carabao Final this year.

Yeah I don't really subscribe to it being a good decision if a VAR intervention is required. The bar is for a clear and obvious error, therefore it was a clear and obvious error to not award the penalty in real time - which I think is a very fair assessment of the decision.
I'd be expecting every SG referee to see and award the penalty in real time. Other that that I thought he was good. Dealt with the Donnarumma flashpoint with the Brighton player well, cautioning both.

Couldn't fault a thing. Was consistent in what he let go for both teams, and contributed to a very entertaining 0-0.
I can't really think of anything that was so clearly wrong, which is to his credit really.

My M-I-L made the point on the weekend, that we're only two England batting collapses away from Christmas. And it's hard to see past that tbh

A rather unusual performance from Turpin tonight. Inconsistent across the board. Foden, O'Reilly & B Silva all correctly cautioned, but nothing for the foul from Rudiger when already on a YC?
General foul detection across the board has been hit and miss too with inconsistencies.
Not his usual best, imo.

Brilliant tie for Exeter at Man City given their financial situation.
Which will only help them out if the heirarchy at City price appropriately to get people in the gate.
Would be nice if Man City were to pass over a nice chunk of the gate receipts as we have seen other big clubs do in the years gone by.
I'm hopeful they will. The point I was trying to make was hopefully the powers that be price it in a way that means people can actually afford to attend, and there are sizeable gate receipts to send money over to Exeter. Some of the decisions recently, on ticket prices especially, have been baffling.

No complaints from me. I thought Barrott did really well and wasn't swayed at all by the usual volatile SJP atmosphere.
I think on another day, with a different VAR, there could have been a goal disallowed for offside and a penalty for the Foden foul, but that's nothing on Barrott or his excellent display.
I also thought the SAO imagery the broadcaster put out caused more ambiguity than clarity. It was angled and given it was so close, did nothing to dissipate the subjectivity of the decision.

I've always been impressed with Sam Barrott in the games I have seen him, so looking forward to see him in what should be a great atmosphere up at SJP.

I saw the incident for the first time last night. Robertson makes no attempt to get back onside and has to duck out of the way of the ball. His only reason for being there is to cause problems for the keeper. In 99.9 % of matches, that's offside no questions asked. The only reason we're having this debate is Tv running and ruining the game at the top levels, something my father warned me about 50 years ago.
I said the same thing to a mate last night. If this hadn't have happened to one of the red cartel, this wouldn't have even been discussed. The way Michael Owen pushed the issue following what I thought was an excellent explanation and understanding from Howard Webb, was nauseating - and clearly derived from his script from up above.

For me I thought all of the KMI's were correct, however the outcome was achieved. In a game of heightened emotion for a number of reasons, I thought for him to come away from the game with comments relating to only some poor positioning is a testament of how well he handled the game, and contributed to the ebb and flow of it.
I really like his explanation style too. It comes across like he's really affable and trying his best, which I think as players and fans, is all you can ask for.

Never thought I’d see the day when a referee performed worse than Stuart Attwell but here we are.
Apologies if I’m being stupid here, but why did you need to throw shade on Stuart Attwell? Can’t we just talk about the performance of the referee without unnecessarily criticising another official?
I guess in life you have barometers. Mine of a poor refereeing performance was Attwell. Probably not so anymore. Hope this clarifies?
