11. Colin Fallon - F.A. Cup 4th Round 1970-71 York v Southampton 3-3

12. Eddie Hughes - Crystal Palace v Fulham 1978-79, blew early for full time & had to bring players back for a couple of minutes

I don't think anyone has yet pointed out that Tofik Bakhramov was the linesman who persuaded Gottfried Dienst to award England's third goal in the 1966 World Cup final.  To the best of my knowledge he is the only referee to have his country's main stadium (in Baku) named after him.

The only one where I can claim to have been present concerns R.J. Simons, who was the referee who confirmed the timing of Jim Fryatt's famous (or notorious) 4˝-second goal in a game between Bradford P.A. and Tranmere Rovers in the 1963-4 season.  There is no truth in the rumour that the crowd clubbed together afterwards to buy Mr Simons a new watch.

We shall never know whether or not it is true, but it was reported that at the end of his life, Mr Bakhramov was asked why he had made that decision and gave the one word answer "Stalingrad."

And yes, jad is quite correct about Mr Simons.

There are not many Paraguayan referees who have achieved notoriety, and I suspect that Rodolfo Pérez Osorio is the gentleman who handled (in a manner of speaking) the third match between Celtic and Estudiantes in 1967 and who marked the occasion by sending off an indeterminate number of Celtic players.

You have the right match, jad, - 1967 Intercontinental Cup play-off in Montevideo - but the wrong opposition. I too thought it was Estudiantes, but they were the opponents of Manchester United a year later - matches again not marked by good behaviour, to put it mildly. In 1967 Celtic played Racing Club.

Ray Lewis was, of course, in charge at Hillsborough on that fateful day.

I believe Arnold Challinor's match was one in which he was assisted by a linesman called Lyner?

I'm sure you're right nemesis, as you usually are, so what was the match?

I was a little surprised to find a few morsels of low-hanging fruit still to be picked, but here are a few more:-

23. Darren Drysdale. Suspended after confrontation with Alan Judge (Ipswich Tn) during match against Northampton Tn 2021.
26. Roger Milford.  FA Cup Final Spurs v. Nott'm Forest 1991. Failed to send off Paul Gascoigne for kamikaze tackle.

f (JCFC supplementary). Robert Hoyzer.  Prison sentence and life ban for match-fixing. Slightly tenuous connection with Felix Zwayer, in news more recently. No connection to Kurt Rothlisberger, though!

With no further answers yet today, I shall dripfeed another:

28. Norman Glover was the referee for Bradford City v Lincoln City in 1985, the occasion of the dreadful fire. It's astonishimg that it was so long ago - umtil I recall that the 14 year olds I was with that day are now over 50. Where does time go? How is it that hours can pass so slowly, but years so quickly?

Correct, my 'sad' rating was a personal reflection on a tragic event rather than the quality of your post! As some may recall, Norman was a late replacement for the game for Don Shaw of Sandbach who injured himself at OT a few days earlier. That did not apparently stop the hate post going to Don's address in my locality. This being so, which game is Don known for (Q16)?

So are you and nemesis talking about the same match?

I am referring to Manchester City v Luton 1982-83 for Challinor

A few more gap fillers
16 Shaw - was replaced for Bradford City v Lincoln 1984-85 late on by Norman Glover (28)
and was ref replaced after 80 mins at Preston v Blackpool 76-77 which led to Graham Kelly stepping in as a line

17 David Hutchinson - Liverpool v Arsenal 1988-89 title decider

18 David S Hutchinson - Highgate United v Enfield Amateur Cup 66-67 Tony Allden killed by lightning

So that must have been the Man City relegation decider v Luton.

My game was a bit more low key as he refereed the Women's Cup Final in the early 80s which I thought might have been the first one to be televised (Lyner lined).
