AT said 25 was his best clue - and certainly it has proved the hardest, but I think between us we have finally **** it. Appropriately enough we end up where AT now lives - though this guy lived down the road a short distance.

Edit: **** was a word indicating solved - what a sensitive degree of censorship this site operates.

I had a similar problem to AT once when I tried to "Ride a **** horse to Banbury Cross"

I was looking for somebody with the initials KP for 25 but I may be looking in completely the wrong direction

No you're not, you've just given me the answer!

And the answer is........ ? (yes, JCFC, just down from the road from me although a completely different county!)

Well, if you insist:   Roy KP!

You must be younger than I am AT. In my day, KP signified not nuts but chewing gum.

"KP penny a packet,
First you chew it then you crack it."

Oh, the excitement when the handle of the machine had the arrow pointing forward, giving two packets rather than one. Or was that only Beech Nut?

PS I have only just realised the significance of the "expletive deleted" symbols in Neil Swore-brick. Very clever!

Stroud was born in Bournemouth when it was Hampshire
But in 1974 it was "stolen" by Dorset
He moved "back" to Hampshire after a year on the F.L. list

Number 25 needs changing, JT, to make your list definitive.

Roy Capey.

Yes, Roy (KP) Capey. Roy hailed from 'Madeley Heath, Crewe' according to Upton's. However Crewe is of course in Cheshire, which is where I now live, whilst Madeley Heath is over the border in Staffs. and closer to Newcastle-under-Lyme than Crewe. I never knew whether Roy regarded himself as a Cheshire man or Staffs. By a very strange quirk of fate, Roy lived up the road from me in the 1970s after he moved south to Surrey, and he was a regular at Wednesday evening RA fitness training. Because he moved Regions, Roy had to keep his Crewe address until he retired from the FL list in 1977 as an alternative to resigning, and his last game was at Preston rather than further south. The flip side was that he was able to referee at Selhurst Park, which he did on at least one occasion after he moved south. Like Roger Kirkpatrick, Roy went into bowling after retiring from the FL list, and he was high up in East Surrey bowling at the time of his death in 2000. A really nice guy but boy, was he short in stature?!

Having set the questions, I was going to provide a definitive list of the answers, but I have obviously been beaten to it.

Thank you to everyone who took part. Right or wrong the answers may have been, but I think we have all had an amusing and informative few days whilst we wait for the new season to kick off.

No 5 - I had forgotten Mr J Flye of Pontypridd!
