That is a fair point he should have let it play and let VAR involved

The biggest problem for me is that he blew for a foul by Ben Mee on the goalkeeper, however, in actual fact the keeper had gone up and hit Mee in the back with his knee and the ball had not even reached either Mee or the keeper.
By the letter of the law it should have been a penalty at least.
Referee's decision used to be final!

Why did he blow the whistle. It was never a foul on the keeper. It was more a penalty the other way. Very poor refereeing.

He blew because he thought that Mee had committed a foul - unfortunately the replays have shown that to be incorrect. Mistakes happen

burnley manger not happy goal should have stood Jamie redknapp said he should have played on blew too early

I think rob jones might not get another game after his mixed performance in Leeds v burnley

The problem is that, if they don't give him more games, he will not progress. The game yesterday should be discussed by those in the upper echelons of officialdom, or whoever is responsible these days and  Rob Jones should then be involved in a further discussion which should then help him to progress ---provided that he gets more appointments at this level.

If a 'mixed performance' was the criteria for not getting another game, no referee would ever be appointed again.

Anyway, he's refereeing Newcastle v Leicester at the weekend.

Lots of reports saying Everton v City off due to new COVID cases in the Man City camp.  If true, the Chelsea v City game must also be in danger.

With the number of games off in the football league reaching worrying levels, if the PL is starting to follow suit I wonder how long it will be until more severe sanctions are drafted in....

That’s for our delightful politicians to decide....  ??? ???

I would day that Everton v Man City is a game that would have been interesting to watch shame it’s off due to Covid
Chelsea v Man City a sort of big 6 fixture is now at risk of not happening due to Covid bad news for ideal viewing and bad news for sky
Let’s hope Rob Jones redeems himself and handles Newcastle v Leicester better than Burnley v Leeds

Given Newcastle played Man City on Boxing day, and therefore potentially came into contact with the infected players / staff, you'd have to assume that one is in some doubt.

There will have been and will continue to be fully inclusive discussions and guidance involving Rob after the game.
So far as I can recall this has been the first major "issue " Rob has encountered thus far.
With hindsight (great isn't it?), he got the penalty right and was hindered on the Burnley goal by blowing too soon, possibly due to inexperience of having VAR to help him out

Possibly, although I guess that it is true for any positive test - e.g. Arsenal played Man City in the Cup a few days before Walker/Jesus tested positive at Christmas and could still play on Saturday. I guess they will get test results before Wednesday.

Marriner, West, Ledger and Madley were the officials at Man City on Saturday and are due to officiate the Southampton V West Ham game tomorrow, so hopefully they will have all been tested beforehand.

According to the Premier League website, Martin Atkinson has replace Craig Pawson as the referee for Brighton-Arsenal tonight
