Kavanagh, Oliver, Tierney and Scott get live gamesat the weekend.

Taylor, Moss, Kavanagh, Pawson, Tierney, Friend, Marriner, Dean, Attwell and Scott get live games in midweek.

It doesn’t seem very encouraging for Madley and Hooper if they can’t even get a PL game when there's 20 in 5 days!

Mike Dean with the Merseyside derby and good to see Tierney getting Man Utd V Tottenham.

"good to see Tierney getting Man Utd V Tottenham"

I have to say Readingfan that my immediate reaction to this appointment was not one of tidings of great joy.  Of course, I deny absolutely any suggestion of bias because on his appearance at OT early in the season, when Palace were the visitors, he failed to send off Cahill or in a separate incident award United a penalty!?

However, as we approach the Christmas season, I shall drum up as much goodwill as I can muster and hope Mr Tierney performs to his potential.

Now where's that smiley emoticon for a quick reply .....

I Think it's a good appointment personally, it's good to test the likes of Tierney and Kavanagh on games like this.

Any referee can have a bad game and I agree that Tierney did on that occasion - but one poor performance doesn't make a referee. I think Tierney has generally done well since being promoted to the SG1, is a FIFA referee, did the Championship play-off final last season, and he (along with the likes of Kavanagh and Pawson) needs to be given games such as this one to extend his development.

I would have thought a mid-table clash in December would be a good game to give an SG1 newbie (or hopeful) rather than an established member of the elite. ;)

Oh dear; I think my attempt at light-heartedness passed over heads.  My fault; humour doesn't always work in writing.  Of course I agree 1 bad game doesn't mean a poor referee.  And for the record, I do hope Paul Tierney has a good game.

It may be a mid-table contest but not without interest and perhaps an extra bite given that a certain Jose Mourinho is back at Old Trafford.

I will be paying my annual visit to Turf Moor on Saturday and look forward to seeing Peter Bankes in rare action on the PL, as well as enjoying a meat pie at the Burnley Cricket Club before the game. I shall also be at Selhurst Park on Tuesday night to see Palace v AFCB and Anthony Taylor in action. Six points from the two games would be useful although I'm not expecting another 5-3 victory v Bournemouth as we had when Roger East refereed his last game at the end of last season.  ;D

I'm pleased that Mike Dean has got the Mersey derby, in my view he is still one of our best refs after 22 years on the list.

Yes, and only the second time he has taken charge of one of the Manc teams.

Does anyone know how many PL games Mike Dean is now on? He must be on course to get to 500 in the next couple of months.

Is Peter Bankes SG1 or SG2?

I wonder if we might see some of the SG2 guys with middles over the festive period, given that there's so many games on the horizon?
David Silva olé.
