Lee Probert in charge of the Palace for the second time in three games. Andre Marriner gets to christen the new Tottenham stadium v Palace on 3rd April.
Yes, quite correct AT, and in addition Friend (Man City), Attwell (Man Utd), Atkinson (Liverpool) and Taylor (Arsenal) also take charge of the same team inside three games. Surely, The PGMOL can make a 'better fist' of their appointing criteria and avoid such duplication !!
They need to learn a lesson from their Scottish counterparts...Bobby Madden's appointment to this Sunday's Old Firm is his first Celtic match since.....well, actually since the last time they played on the 17th March!
I do remember Howard Webb (circa 2005-6) referring Liverpool v Arsenal and Arsenal v Man Utd in consecutive weeks.
(Edit: I was way out, it was the 07/08 season. He refereed Liverpool v Arsenal on 28/10/07 (MW 11) and Arsenal v Man Utd on 03/11/07 (MW12).
I think that week was when Webb really cemented himself as England's top referee at the time - the 'big' games had not gone well for referees so far that season. You'd had Rob Styles infamously on Liverpool v Chelsea and Mark Clattenburg on the Merseyside derby, and Mike Dean had a poor day at the office for Man Utd V Chelsea.
I often think too much emphasis is put on referees having the same teams within a short period of time. If there is a big hangover from the previous game then it is obviously not wise into rushing into having them referee that team again but I can understand, for example, why the PGMO wanted Martin Atkinson on both Everton V Liverpool and Liverpool V Tottenham. If it hadn't gone to him then maybe it would have gone to Anthony Taylor who did Tottenham V Arsenal on the same weekend Atkinson refereed Liverpool, or maybe Andre Marriner or Michael Oliver who also refereed Tottenham/Liverpool in the seven days prior to the aforementioned two games. I'm not sure it makes much difference whether there is a gap of three weeks, four weeks or six weeks in the majority of cases.
