Congratulations to Jarred Gillett on his first EPL game. In my view better than quite a few referees on the list and someone who should be challenging for FIFA places and beyond in years to come, a really talented official. I hope appointments for Salisbury, Brooks and Harrington follow shortly and I really hope we see Gillett on a PL game again soon rather than in 3/4 weeks!

A rest for Anthony Taylor this week while Michael Oliver is back for the big game at Chelsea.  I notice Darren England is VAR to Oliver and some might suggest he needs to be just a little more proactive if necessary than he was for Martin Atkinson yesterday.

Just a VAR appointment for Paul Tierney after by all accounts an excellent performance in the London derby.

Good Luck to Jarred Gillett on his PL debut.
Hajrá Lilák. Csak a Kispest. Hajrá Magyarok! Hajrá játékvezetői csapat! Soha ne add fel. Nincs sárga kérem!!! No Chris Kavanagh doesn't live in Ashton or even in the Greater Manchester area!!

Congrats to Jared- about bloody time as well!!
Kavanagh and friend return after injury and Marriner with another Palace v Brighton match.

Didn’t Mike Dean do United quite recently, was it wolves away?

EDIT can see a poster has above has confirmed Dean did to United against Wolves. Poor appointing that.

Terrific game for Pawson- I think it’s his first NO Derby. No better time to do one!

Let's hope he has a less eventful game than he had this weekend.  At Peterborough he had to deal with:

  • Two flares thrown on to the pitch by Birmingham supporters as Peterborough were about to take a corner
  • Several bottles thrown on to the pitch after he awarded a penalty (correctly) to Peterborough
  • A complaint of a racist remark made to Peterborough's Nathan Thompson by Birmingham supporters for which two arrests were made
  • What looked like a complaint by the Peterborough goalkeeper of missiles being thrown on to the pitch
  • A red card for SFP (definitely correct and well handled, heading off any potential retribution)

All very well done (although I was surprised there was no tannoy announcement after the racist remark) in a very impressive display.  I might have found a couple more yellows for stopping promising attacks but perhaps that's why he is where he is and I am where I am (along with age, speed, eyesight, etc.).

Delighted Gillett has finally been given a game - the best of the newbies, and probably better than a number of existing SG1 referees from what I've seen.  Also good to see Madley get a televised game this week, 2 weeks running for him with a match.  Great to see Kavanagh (and Friend) back among the appointments.

I think Andre Marriner has been a regular on the Palace v Brighton derby matches in the past few seasons.

Yes I agree with all of that - great to have Gillett get a game and good that Madley gets a live match.

England's appointment as VAR for Chelsea V Man City seems a bit surprising after the weekend. It's maybe a bit odd that Riley generally seems cautious with on-field appointments but has two referees early in their second season as part of officiating team for Chelsea V Man City game.

The big guns out for the early game at SB, and finally we get to see Jarred Gillett on the pitch and not at Stockley Park.

Also nice to see Kav and Friend back from their injuries.
David Silva olé.

Interesting debate going on. Was Villa’s goal offside as Watkins interfering with de gea. Of course Leicester had 2 goals rules out similarly last week.

For me no offside as de gea never going to save it but I am totally confused having seen 2 different decisions on 2 different weekends
