according to thethingfromlewes he thinks hooper should get a prem appointment what he thinks should make no difference to what you think at all but you wanted to put your point across anyway which im slightly miffed about

hopefully attwell gets back into premier league contention next weekend

A PM might have been more appropriate than a general post in this case, then I could have amended or even removed my post if I had thought it appropriate. Anyway.....

I'm not sure why you're even 'slightly miffed' about my post. You and TTFL expressed a viewpoint on Simon Hooper and so did I, with reasons for my view. I'm not sure that TTFL was saying that Simon should get a PL appointment as you are suggesting, but I will leave it to TTFL to confirm this or otherwise. What I am saying is that Simon should not get a PL appointment based on what I have seen of him on TV this season, in particular at Blackpool, and that is a view which I think others may hold as well, which is probably why he has not yet got a PL game. I am sure we shall get a considered view on Simon from AFCB after the Cup game there next week, and I would be happy to see Simon in the middle in the PL at the Palace home game v Burnley at the beginning of December. However I don't think that is going to happen unless his fitness levels improve markedly before then, hence the view expressed in my previous post. Regards, AT

The whole idea of a forum is for discussions to take place, between everyone. If you want to have a purely 1:1 conversation then perhaps the pm system would be more advisable. Everyone on this forum has a right to express their view on any public post and unless they do so in a way that breaks the forum rules then no-one has the right to be miffed about them participating in a public conversation.

Thanks for the prompt!

I was simply pointing out that despite Hooper being a SG1 official, surely he should get an appearance to warrant his standing as one of the top division officials. I don't think I recall a SG1 official staying out of the top flight for such an elongated period, aside from injuries.

As for Hooper, I still think Madley would have been a better choice, however Hooper has been selected therefore the gods at PGMOL should use him, unless they have no faith in his abilities, in which case, he shouldn't have been promoted.

If he has been injured (as suggested in some sections of the media) & is now coming back from injury then perhaps he has not yet passed the PL fitness test - not sure if the SG2 take the same one as the SG1 or the slightly lower one taken by the FL guys - perhaps someone can confirm? My understanding is that the fitness tests are only run every couple of months so it may well be that he is still awaiting his date to take the PL one.

Sounds the most likely explanation to me bmb

I agree that it is a probable explanation, although, as I have said before, the notion of fitness tests only being run every few months seems absurd to me with such a low number of SG referees. It obviously makes sense to have fixed dates when you're dealing with hundreds or thousands of people but when you've got 17 guys, it would surely make sense to do them as and when required.

If Michael Oliver and Anthony Taylor unexpectedly became unavailable for the fitness test over the summer, would they really be made to wait three months until the autumn when the next one was scheduled?! Knowing the PGMO, they probably would!

if pgmol think hooper is good for the premier league then he should get a prem fixture if he keeps on staying in the efl then he should stay in the efl promote andrew madley instead

If they wanted him to take an unscheduled fitness test, one could easily be arranged. Perhaps they realise they've made a mistake !

I rather think Rob Jones may have already overtaken Andy Madley in the pecking order (but given their recent choices, who knows? they'd probably go for Robinson!).

They could easily accommodate both of them in SG1.

If, as suggested there are only certain junctures in the season for these tests, Grandad East must have only taken his recently. Could it be Hooper has failed again confining him to FL duties indefinitely?

But if he took it even just 1 day before Hooper had the medical certificate from his Dr to say yes now fit to take it then Hooper would have to wait for 2 months until the next one. I believe it is down to cost that they are only every couple of months, costs being the medical staff, people who do the timing etc on the day hence why they don't run an unscheduled one for any 1 referee and only do them at set points.

M'learned friend reports from a very damp Selhurst Park (Palace v Newcastle):

"Marriner had good game, definite upgrade on Mason (replacement for Graham Scott at Huddersfield v Palace), 8/10. Number of sensible decisions and always up with play".

A good mark from the Craig Revel Horwood (any relation?) of Selhurst Park, and good to hear that Andre seems to be back to his best after a sticky patch a while ago.
