Two seperate sets of rules being applied at The Emirates. So blindingly obvious to anybody - even Klopp!

I like the fact that little bits of contact are being let go, but that doesn’t mean that clear fouls should go unpunished. A clear foul on fernandes in the build up to the Southampton goal and few other clear fouls in the games not being given

That wasn't a foul, Fernandes felt the slightest bit of contact and flung himself over.  They aren't going to give that from now on, and that can only be good for the game in my opinion.

Watch it against he went straight through the back of him nowhere near the ball. If I did that on a Saturday afternoon in front of an observer I’d have my throat cut

Firstly, as a United fan, I find Fernandes's antics at times by feigning or exaggerating fouls on him very frustrating and his continual moaning at referees annoying.  I'd no issue with the YC today.

However, I can't agree that in this instance there was "the slightest bit of contact".  Some will say you reap what you sow and Fernandes deserves no sympathy.  Be that as it may, while I agree with the new policy being adopted regarding slight contact or soft fouls, it is the surely the duty of referees to correctly recognise and penalise 'proper' fouls.

As it happens, I didn't think this was one of Pawson's better days.  His foul detection I felt was random at times; another example being the challenge on Greenwood in the first half when Pawson eventually stopped play (much to the ire of the Southampton defender).  He didn't give a foul yet the replay showed that an elbow had caught Greenwood in the neck. Not saying it was malicious but to me that was contact that warranted a foul.

On a more general point, after a good first round of PL fixtures for referees and VARs,  I was less convinced this weekend about those incidents when VAR did intervene and some when they didn't.

Sunday was okay

all incidents were reviewed by Dermot Gallagher today and most he agreed with
