7 of the first week referees get games again here - including Pawson and Oliver who are both out in Europe midweek.  Impressive start to the season for Tierney - Community Shield, Man United v Leeds and Arsenal v Chelsea.

Nothing for Kavanagh in weeks 1 or 2 makes me think he may be carrying an injury.

Oliver and Taylor with their regular televised appointment again - really hope they are looked after as their schedule is nothing short of ricidulous.

As is the fact Marriner is 4O at Leeds then straight down to London to be VAR on Sunday - why not give him 2 VAR appointments so he diesn't have to travel in between.

Nice to see a couple of the new guys out in the EFL - hopefully one of them will be trusted in the PL before long!

Still no sign of Hooper. Injured, covid or failed fitness test?

It would but I wouldn’t hold your breath. Two weeks in and Harrington and Salisbury are already back in the Championship

Which is standard for SG1. Amazes me as it appears to be the only level of football where you get promoted and then referee below that for a few weeks.
FL dont say to their newbies ref in the national league for a few weeks to warm up
(And SG2 refs have gone straight in too)

So there was a period - certainly in the 1980's and 1990's - when newly appointed Football League referees remained available to their Contributory League for at least their first season.   This was because they would be getting - on average - one game in four on the Football League and the powers that be wanted them to keep match fit.

It did give up and coming Lino's on the Contributory League the opportunity to occasionally work with a "star" of the refereeing world.

What is the point of promoting these new refs if it’s going to be the usual ones week in week out?

Well one of the reasons, as Mike Dean said on his Tubes video, is that there are likely to be several retirements in the next few years, so this seems to be (unusually) a bit of forward planning!

Arsenal have Chris Kavanagh on VAR for the 2nd game in a row. After last week's showing (in front of Mike Riley) as well. Even Klopp mentioned it. PGMOL just ruining the game.

Out of interest, how does Arsenal having Kavanagh 2 games in a row on VAR link to the opinion of Jurgen Klopp???

I like the fact that little bits of contact are being let go, but that doesn’t mean that clear fouls should go unpunished. A clear foul on fernandes in the build up to the Southampton goal and few other clear fouls in the games not being given
