PL Website shows Josh Smith has replaced Bobby Madley on Fulham vs Crystal Palace.

Perhaps another injury for Bobby Madley. Good opportunity for Smith
Maybe takethejag had got involved Or maybe a play off Final.

If only I had as much influence as Missy BMB, but perhaps there is a God after all? I guess we could've got lumbered with Stroud, but Josh Smith has definitely looked promising when I've seen him, so a very positive move I'd say.

I’ve lost count how many times we’ve had Stroud. Our win rate isn’t good either when he appeared at the Cottage.

Last season we didn’t win any of our games he officiated…despite winning the title.

Maybe Stroud still has umbrage with us for losing his SG1 place after failing to send off Julio Arca at the Cottage in 2008 (which we won 3-0)

I've moved the comments on the AFCB v Man Utd game to general discussion, just in case anyone is wondering where they have disappeared to.
Hajrá Lilák. Csak a Kispest. Hajrá Magyarok! Hajrá játékvezetői csapat! Soha ne add fel. Nincs sárga kérem!!! No Chris Kavanagh doesn't live in Ashton or even in the Greater Manchester area!!

The appointments on Tuesday will be interesting.

With Oliver in the FL , Taylor will be at Everton in all likelihood.

I’d expect Kavanagh and Tierney to take the other two.

It looks like the games of importance will be as follows
Everton v Bournemouth
Leeds v Spurs
Leicester v West Ham
Aston Villa v Brighton

I'd put Taylor at Elland Road, as it has double significance for both teams. Id say Tierney at Leicester if anywhere, the least risky one ahead of his cup final. Hooper can't be at Villa. Is he trusted enough for Everton.? If not Pawson may be seen for that assignment, and then Kavanagh at Villa maybe? Attwell is a possibility as well.

Btw, if it comes out this week that Andre or Graham are on the way out, can you please put them at Southampton on Sunday if you are reading Mr Webb! I won't be able to contain myself if one of them is finishing as well as Bobby and James 😭.

I think we'll know if they get an appointment like this they'll be saying goodbye. Especially Graham, who doesn't usually get final day outings on field.

Just to throw another idea into the ring, I’m fairly sure Smith is from Peterborough. Given the result at Hillsbrough, could this be him getting experience with VAR ahead of a potentially bigger play off experience?
He is from Lincolnshire and has officiated at Peterborough games is the past.

Also worth remembering there are 19 SG1 referees (I think) so with 10 games needing 10 referees and VARs, there has to be at least one non-SG1 referee with a middle, so it'll be interesting to see who that will be, especially given Robinson has L1 playoff, Bond and Madley are injured (?) and Smith had a PL appointment last weekend.

19 refs plus Swarbrick as VAR. So 10 SG1 on field and 10 on VAR assuming everyone is available.

I foresee it being like an episode of Inside Number 9, where the twist at the end is Trevor Kettle walking out to officiate...

At a guess:

Taylor at Leeds
Pawson at Everton
Attwell at Leicester
Kavanagh at Villa Park
Coote at Brentford

Marriner at Palace or Southampton.

Oliver on var duties.

Yes 20 in total, but presumably one will be required as VAR for the L2 play-off final earlier in the day.

Robinson and Bond both worked as VARs for some games in the first season it was in PL so perhaps could be an opportunity to try out some non-SG1 refs as VAR, depending on how much recent training etc they've had.

If they did have a SG2 ref refereeing a PL game then Palace V Nottingham Forest would seem the most likely to me as the other 9 are either of significance in terms of relegation/Europe or feature a team in the current top 5 so are quite high profile. Of course Smith refereed Palace last weekend.

They’d have to SG2 on all board duties too. There aren’t the numbers to use SG1 on the boards on the big relegation blockbuster matches. Could be a tricky set of appointments.

The Palace game has to go SG2 as it’s a total dead rubber. NL on the boards (Sam Allison or Sam Barrott have had prior exposure to the PL scoreboard holding).

Incidentally Man U v Fulham could be a dead rubber too. Fulham can’t move from 10th and if Utd get a point v Chelsea then they have CL qualification secure. With the cup final the following weekend they won’t put a full strength team out either.

I thought he was pensioned off as a VAR by Webb?
