What do you propose though. Oliver and Taylor can't referee the top four every week, so they have to referee the so called lower teams from time to time.
The big refs should do the big games! So when the big teams play the smaller teams like this week city are playing huddersfield and spurs are playing Fulham - using Marriner and Pawson is a waste of time in my eyes! Then when the big games come around you end up in a situation where moss and Friend end up being appointed!
You object to Michael Oliver being appointed to Watford v Burnley which keeps a “big ref” away from the “big teams”. You don’t like a “big ref” taking charge of a “big team” versus “smaller team” match either. There is only one so called big 6 clash this weekend and that went to Anthony Taylor. Which game would you have appointed Oliver to ?
I wouldn’t have appointed him to one. He can have the odd week off can’t he?
Indeed - and he does.
But it seems many referees would be regularly having weeks off - you seemingly include Pawson, Marriner and Oliver in this list of 'big' referees - presumably you would include a few others? Dean, Atkinson, Taylor perhaps? An up and coming referee like Kavanagh maybe?
In the three Premier League weekends in February, I guess you would class Man City V Arsenal, Man City V Chelsea and Man Utd V Liverpool as 'big' games so that gives three of the officials one game to do - where would you put all the rest?
Under this system, you'd presumably have officials like Mason, Hooper, Coote, Moss and East refereeing Premier League games virtually every single week?
(Incidentally, I would suggest Burnely in particular are playing for every point they can get considering they are under threat of relegation.)
