In the last few years, a referee who's had a PL game has always gone on to receive promotion relatively soon after so it's good signs for Robinson. Personally, I'd still put the likes of Jones ahead of him and I hope others follow soon. Jones doesn't seem to have had a Championship game for ages? Gillett is another one actually who seems to be assigned to PL games most weeks.

Madley and Bankes get game son the same weekend! Strange how Madley doesn't get anything for ages and then comes back with a team challenging for the title.

Good to see Tierney continuing his recent run of appointments. I think he's a very good referee.

Congratulations to Robinson, I’ve always been a tad concerned when it’s comes to his performances but clearly he is in line for SG1 next season. A very experienced team with him which is good to see.

That was his only game since the November international break though wasn't it? Out of six rounds of Championship fixtures, he'll only have refereed in one of them? He seems to get an awful lot of FO appointments n the PL - which of course might bode well for him.

Are we expecting the appointments for the festive fixtures to be released at some point this week?

I am usually a tad concerned too with Robinson. Not sure about this one but he is clearly impressing someone. Would still prefer to see Rob Jones in there. Robinson is 36 I think - being groomed for FIFA next year?
Interesting that he is one of the 5 SG2 refs appointed to VAR and it makes me wonder if these were strategic appointments to have them working with PL refs with a longer term view to having most or all of these 5 being promoted to PL middles at some stage. If so we can expect Gillet, Bond, England and Brookes to get a sniff of PL action in the coming months.

Following Hendo's point about Robinson being one of the SG2 VARs, it would be a pity if not being part of that group means that promotion to SG1 is unlikely in the near term given all the favourable comments made on this site about Robert Jones as an example. If that were to be the case, then it would set up another hurdle for younger officials to be promoted quickly. Are SG2 or NL refs given any training with VAR at present? Certainly FOs are drawn from the non VAR group and as Langford's refereeing at Chelsea showed, not being involved with VAR did not prevent him from handling the game relatively successfully. Maybe my concerns here are groundless.

Next Monday.

The appointments for Christmas/New Year were released on Thurs 13 December last year, hence why I thought we might get them today/tomorrow.

Steve Bruce quite critical of Tim Robinson after the Burnley V Newcastle game. Suggested he was not ready for Premier League.
