The only time i've seen that happen is when Graham Scott was late due to traffic for the Chelsea vs Leicester game in 2019 and James Linington had to replace him as the referee

Having done some research, it was in fact Oli Langford. Not sure why i thought it was James Linington but hey we all make mistakes.

Ah but refs aren't allowed to make mistakes so I'm afraid you will now have to be dropped to the Debréta Sunday league 27th division for the foreseeable future...

Strange mistake to make - James Linington is a referee, Oli Langford is someone who rarely gives the appearance of being one 🤪

Somewhere in the dim recesses of my memory I seem to think Peter Walton once missed a match due to being caught up in a Motorway traffic jam of lengthy ( both in distance and time ) nature. Does anyone recall that?

Years and years ago Ray Bigger failed to turn up to a match because he resigned from the National List but the authorities had assumed that his resignation was later ( or possibly at the end ) in the season rather than with immediate effect.

I believe Grandad did miss a match… although living in Northampton and the M1 being a road of hell sometimes I’m not surprised more haven’t fallen foul of that “road” or “car park”

Grandad Walton missed a League cup game between  Chelsea and Liverpool I believe he was scheduled to be 4th official and didn't make it in time Jarnail Singh was at the game and took over 4th man duties and if memory serves me correctly Paul Norman was injured before kick off and Grandad who had just made it to the ground had to run the line

Well I think it’s safe to say Mitrovic was incredibly lucky to not see red yesterday. I can understand and accept a yellow a piece for the afters (although could equally justify a red for both!) however, how has he not seen a yellow for the initial challenge as well!?!

I agree, and I do think referees sometimes take the easy option of the same sanction to both players when one is clearly more culpable than the other.  Having chosen to go yellow for the "afters", that should have been the second YC for Mitrovic.

David Coote wore yellow so he can take himself off to the naughty step. He was fine, I can’t think of any issues really. My team played well, despite the score! It was men v boys, Man City aren’t just on another level, they’re in a completely different universe, incredible team. Thank goodness we only have to play them once more!!

Can we go back to the Championship yet…

Apart from financial gain (which in some cases cripples clubs), what is the actual point of winning promotion to the Premier League if you're wishing for that after two games, one of which you won?

This was not even given as a foul yesterday https://twitter.com/playzytstyle/status/1558534688058261506?s=21&t=ilg30BHgnojdiNFUqqA5IA

Harrington and his assistants were very reluctant to whistle/flag for anything in the first half but got better as the game went on,
