From the BBC, following the Bournemouth game...

"The game had the most important moment - you know when, you know who," said the Spurs boss.

Mourinho told BBC MOTD he feels "powerful people do not like to be criticised".

Asked to clarify who he was referring to, Mourinho told Sky Sports: "The same referee that was the VAR against Sheffield United. In the world, everybody knows that is a penalty. And I say everybody, I mean everybody.

"Like Sheffield, the man of the match was not one of the players. But at Sheffield I could blame myself and the players, today I could not do that."

Surely this puts Oliver in an incredibly difficult, compromising situation ahead of not just any Spurs game but the NLD which always has added scrutiny and likely flashpoints anyway?

From memory Jose hasn’t liked Oliver since he sent Herrera off in the Fa cup against Chelsea a couple of years back and it just adds pressure on Oliver for a game that never fails to have flashpoints and we all know who he’ll blame either Oliver or as he said after the Sheffield United game the VAR also known as “the man in the office”

It does but then to take him off of the game gives into Mourinho's disgusting bullying because that is what this statement is and I don't know what is worse!

I agree, although it does then result in the PGMO hoping for a miraculous uneventful NLD, otherwise any big decision for Spurs could be seen as giving into the pressure by Arsenal and any big decision against Spurs could be seen as a display of resistance to intimidation by Spurs. It's a no win situation really, and why the FA were supposed to take action against these sort of comments.

Stroud had a short PL career before but was dropped. Unlike a certain ref from Warwickshire he was not given umpteen opportunities  to try and get his place back.

That is the catch 22.  I'd rather Oliver be taken off of the game for his own protection but then Mourinho has got what he wants, which makes me angry! Maybe they should replace him with a lower league referee who has a history of courting controversy, someone like Trevor Kettle, just for the fun of it! It wouldn't happen but it's the sort of thing I would do if I was in a position to do so!!! Yes I really am that childish and bolshy! They do need to send a very strong message that the PGMOL and the PGMOL alone will decide on referee appointments and will not give in to managers bleating in the press but as you say we also have to protect the referees. It is so easy to throw out false and malicious allegations implying a lack of integrity. Hope they find the cahoonas to deal with Mourinho in the strongest way possible.

I am not sure if this is has happened in other games today, but I notice Lee Mason is on board duties for substitutes on both sides in the Sheffield United v Chelsea game, when it has previously been a member of the club staff doing it.  I can only assume that there is only one board available today.

Marriner has been the stand out official post lockdown. No controversies and has handled all games with minimum of fuss and stayed out of the limelight.

Although fundamentally opposed to removing officials from games for errors, I am tending towards suspensions for VAR failures. There must or at least should have been training, feedback from reviews and lessons learnt yet we are still getting bizarre decisions. This should not happen after all the opportunities presented to improve VAR. So responsibility and accountability is surely the way forward as imho they have had enough chances. VAR officials should do their job correctly but to some extent Mike Riley also has to be asked some serious questions but the question remains, have his officials tried to throw him under a bus? What managers think is irrelevant.
If we cannot get it right, should teams have one appeal per match to review an incident?

Perhaps I'm missing something here, but if VAR has reviewed a decision and reached a conclusion who is going to review it again in the event of an appeal?
