Good to see Robert Jones and Simon Hooper getting a game. Inevitable perhaps that Michael Oliver should get the Man Utd v Liverpool game.

Consider the fa cup final appointment it is totally predictable that Oliver gets such a big game.
Surprised that no trial game for SG2 so far this season. I would like to see at least one of John Brooks/Jarred Gillett do a trial.

Another good set

Jones with a good opportunity in an important game for Leicester. Hopefully he can redeem himself after a not so good game last time out. Good appointment here.

Hooper with a big game. Good chance for him. Same goes for Coote who is getting good games on a fortnightly basis now. Kavanagh with an important game at the bottom. Those 3 are all good appointments.

Now, FRIEND. Why couldn't they just give this one to Bankes after his good game in the reverse in January. Has also handled his last few games well. Nothing against Friend but this was an ideal chance for Bankes to gain confidence. Bad choice here.

Oliver with the obvious appointment on Sunday. Congrats to him and his team. Good appointment for him. Has handled big games well in the past. Good one for Mike Dean as well. A sort of nothing game now that Newcastle are more or less safe but a nice one for him all the same. Same goes for Marriner. Safe and good appointments on Sunday.

Tierney on the Derby, sensible if you were making the choice of official before Sunday. After sundays performance, Tierney doesnt deserve a big game and I am concerned if he will have the confidence to handle such a big rivalry. Him swapping with Marriner or Dean would have made more sense . Even put Moss in as he seems to calm situations down quite well. Sensible good appointment for Taylor as well with id say the 2nd biggest game of the weekend.

Overall, I'd change nothing except Friend and maybe Tierney (AT THE MOMENT)

Does Mason have the confidence to do a huge one in the Championship . I hope so. Surely he'll be back in the Premier next week. Nice one to ease Atkinson back in as well.

Gillett and Brooks with important roles in BHA V LEE. Surely they are the 2 promotion candidates if any are needed.
All opinions are my own

He's handled big games before tho, so im sure he has plenty of confidence, Also marriner is a villa fan, so doesnt referee west brom games i believe.

Correct. Although found it weird that he doesn’t do West Brom but can do Wolves..

Several games between mid-table sides, or involving teams that are safe that could have been used as development games for SG2 referees, so a shame none were. With the gap between 17th and 18th, and 1st and 2nd and even 7th and 8th, more and more teams have little to play for so hopefully we'll see some potential SG1 referees getting an opportunity in coming weeks. Gillett probably best placed given his extensive use as a VAR this season so will be well used to the system (notwithstanding his previous experience in Australia using it).

Looking at next week Sheffield Utd Crystal Palace at 3pm is a great opportunity for an SG2. Wolves v Brighton on Sunday at 12pm as well.

Following weeks, youve got many more

However, I doubt any will get a go since they're all on live TV. At least they will probably go to Jones, England, Coote, Bankes etc

It still wouldnt happen, the rivalry with wolves isnt as intense as the one with west brom i believe, and the same goes for wolves, who's main rivals are west brom.

It still wouldnt happen, the rivalry with wolves isnt as intense as the one with west brom i believe, and the same goes for wolves, who's main rivals are west brom.
The main rivalries in the west midlands are:

Brum / Villa
W Brom / Wolves
W Brom / Villa
Brum / W Brom

With respect to appointments, great to see jones and hooper with games, esp hooper who seems
To have been rewarded for good recent performances with everton v villa.
Not surprised to see Oliver with the biggest game of the weekend.

I am sure Tierney is well capable of the west midlands derby if he didnt have confidence in his abilities
He wouldnt be refereeing in the premier league with a fifa badge.
Just because he chose to be lenient with a few challenges and man manage a major cup final in a different way
To what others might have done doesnt make him a bad referee or cause him to lack confidence.

As for Mason, again if he didnt have confidence in his abilities i am sure he would have decided to retire before now. ( i wait for the he should have done comments with baited breath )
His game albeit at the top of the championship is a game between a team already promoted and a team that cant
Get promoted but is guaranteed a play off berth, make of that what you will.

Jones is making his way refereeing in the premier league and i am sure he is learning a lot game by game hence
He may have a few hurdles to navigate.

At the moment I am not sure Wolves are good enough for Mr Tierney. The comment about confidence is rubbish imho. He had the confidence to ignore a yellow card in order to man manage the game which could have lasted 120 minutes. If Spurs were good enough... That it backfired was unfortunate but the referee gets no plus points if a side goes down to 10 men. I have noted other experienced referees refuse to issue second yellows where they can.
Junior mk1 has never forgiven him for not awarding a penalty to Derby back in the Championship but I have always rated him highly.
