Must be a bit galling for him, especially as one of the few Southern based officials, to see referees from up north travelling long distances to referee games in London and on the South Coast.  I understand that quite a few of those matches are important and they may want their best  - but it does feel unfair - especially when one of the 2 new referees this season has a game down south live on the BBC, and he gets nothing.

The treatment of Hooper has been nothing short of disgraceful!

Hardly - If I were him I'd count myself very fortunate to have been promoted to the top level at all. I've seen very little since to suggest he's good enough.

Strangest one seems to be Coote having to do a quick dash from down south up to Newcastle!

He'll have to ask Mr Cummings how much petrol he'll need  :)

That is a separate issue entirely. Whether he is good enough to be used in the PL is open to debate. Personally I agree he shouldn’t have been promoted but the key point to remember is HE WAS!
Thus, he should be used as a PL referee and should be trusted to handle more games!

Just wonder if his lack of use, except for 4thO duties and relatively mediocre PL games, could be the PL’s way of indicating that they realise they made a mistake in promoting him. Roger East and to some degree Lee Mason fall into the same category in my mind, neither trusted with a big top 6 encounter. Yes I know Mason got this years Carabao Cup Final but as we said elsewhere the FA’s choices ( out of their own making and poor management) were limited. With contract law as it is the PL have dug some serious holes for themselves sadly

He did do a PL game the weekend before Premier League was suspended back in March.

If I were him, I'd rather be in the position he is now than the one he was a few years ago because I presume he is paid more as a PL referee.

There are some SG1 officials who are destined to go right to the top very quickly, like Mark Clattenburg and Michael Oliver when they were promoted. There are others who will always drift in and out a bit more, like Roger East and it seems Simon Hooper.

If Manchester City sign someone who's not quite good enough for that level then you can say that's a mistake, but playing them in the first team every week just compounds it further. I think the best Hooper is ever likely to be is someone who does a dozen or so lower profile PL games a season, coupled with a range of EFL games.

I don’t mind Mason, he is a steady experienced referee. I do think his ability has diminished over the past 2 years or so proven by the amount of games he has done compared to others!

IMO I think this is Mason’s best season for as long as I can remember had a good game in cup final and hasn’t  been mentioned on here for the wrong reasons this season

Firstly I do not support either Spurs or United but I have to say that Jon Moss handling of last night's game was to say the least questionable. However my real point and observation is how unfit he appeared, on at least 2 occasions he was seen appearing gasping for breath. I have never seen a Premier league ref so slow around the pitch and this probably had something to do with his questionable decisions. Appreciate it must be like pre season for Refs but he looked well below the required standard.

Shame that No appointment in this set for banks or hooper or for Robinson hopefully they get one before the season ends

Anyway away from this matter what do other members think about the season restarting behind closed doors?

We started in Hungary a few weeks ago behind closed doors & it was actually a lot better! The play acting was gone as was the dissent. The players got on and played and seemed to be thoroughly enjoying just playing.  Small number of fans then allowed back in & play acting and dissent rose, tempers were more frayed and players & match officials had lost the big smiles from the games behind closed doors. We now have full crowds back from this weekend.  The games with no fans were the most enjoyable!
Hajrá Lilák. Csak a Kispest. Hajrá Magyarok! Hajrá játékvezetői csapat! Soha ne add fel. Nincs sárga kérem!!! No Chris Kavanagh doesn't live in Ashton or even in the Greater Manchester area!!

Good practice for Jarred Gillett as 4O at Old Trafford last night, with Man Utd apparently using all their five permitted substitutes at one go! I didn't see any of the match but I wonder how long it took to sort this out and whether the correct time was added on at the end.
