The treatment of Hooper has been nothing short of disgraceful!
Hardly - If I were him I'd count myself very fortunate to have been promoted to the top level at all. I've seen very little since to suggest he's good enough.
That is a separate issue entirely. Whether he is good enough to be used in the PL is open to debate. Personally I agree he shouldn’t have been promoted but the key point to remember is HE WAS!
Thus, he should be used as a PL referee and should be trusted to handle more games!
He did do a PL game the weekend before Premier League was suspended back in March.
If I were him, I'd rather be in the position he is now than the one he was a few years ago because I presume he is paid more as a PL referee.
There are some SG1 officials who are destined to go right to the top very quickly, like Mark Clattenburg and Michael Oliver when they were promoted. There are others who will always drift in and out a bit more, like Roger East and it seems Simon Hooper.
If Manchester City sign someone who's not quite good enough for that level then you can say that's a mistake, but playing them in the first team every week just compounds it further. I think the best Hooper is ever likely to be is someone who does a dozen or so lower profile PL games a season, coupled with a range of EFL games.
