Welcome akwoo. There are a few long standing "jokes" on RTR, yellow shirts being one of them. They are to make us smile, certainly not life or death (unless you are meeting BMB in person)

Another contributor is a big fan of the pinky referee outfit which Pawson and Oliver have portrayed in Europe!

Quite agree. I was caught in my early days with reference to a referee from Chipping Sodbury. Took a while for me to work out that it was a joke, but then I'm often thick on these things. JCFC perhaps? Other favourite topics of old include the palm trees on Bournemouth Boulevard, caravans on the A30 and the vestal virgins (non-gender specific) of Crewe!

And the weekly performances of Trevor Kettle!

Someone is still obsessing over Trevor Kettle even though he's retired. I can imagine a bedroom wall full of Mr Kettle pictures.

Best not to wear yellow if you ever get that absolute pleasure(!)

Welcome akwoo - my absolute hatred of yellow is always a source for amusement & taunting my way! The brief laugh we all have over it gives a few seconds respite from all the nasty stuff out there and let's face it there's a whole heap of nasty out there sadly.

Thought John Brooks was very good at Bournemouth tonight. Calm throughout, got the vast majority of decisions right and in control.

Agree. Did think Meps was a bit lucky with that stupid late tackle on the touchline - thank goodness he didn't make full contact . Brooks dealt with the testosterone overload as a result of the stupidity well.

I have been mystified by all the talk about yellow. Surely to query its use is just personal taste? Am I missing something?  Surely there more important things for this website to worry about!

It is actually statistically proven that referees make significantly more errors when wearing yellow than they do wearing any other kit colour.

??? I am surprised at this amplfication of your reply. Another joke? If not I shall not take ANYTHING you say seriously ever again!!!!!
For statistical proof there needs to be a CAUSAL relationship. Have you heard "You can prove anything with statistics"?

Mostly a joke! A few years ago I counted all the errors in Viktor's games across a season, particularly the key match errors and when we worked out the average number of errors per match they were significantly higher when he wore yellow, than any other colour, so it was statistically true across 1 season for 1 referee!  He didn't believe me when I said it to him and so we did the maths together & I had to justify all the errors I had listed!  He wore yellow less the next season & had less controversial errors. So not particularly scientific and 99% a joke!

I am sorry if my reply to the statistical remark was taken seriously. It was meant to be OTT. Perhaps it should have included a yellow smiley! Or  (perish the thought!) a LOL.
As for not belonging here, I do think that suggestion is uncalled for after 50 years as referee and assessor who never had the opportunity to wear yellow!!!

Thanks to both. Apology accepted. This is one of my favourite web sites. I find some of the exchanges fascinating.
People are often calling for consistency in referees. My own view is that consistency is well nigh impossible for HUMAN beings. All sorts of factors come into play for many decisions. Errors by referees should be expected and accepted (not unlimited!) in the same way that we accept missed penalties by players. I used to think I had had a good game if I made fewer than three mistakes. Of course some mistakes are more significant than others!
How about that to get people talking!?
