Well I think it is becoming clear that we won’t be seeing any potential trial games for the likes of Rob Jones and Tim Robinson. Fulham v Everton a clear example of a game that could so easily have been given to someone less experienced yet they decide the experience of Probert is necessary for this game.

Speaking of experience, it seems as if Simon Hooper is well and truly out of favour. Is there a chance he may lose his SG1 status after only 1 season?

I think that Leeds V Sheffield Wednesday is probably just as good a game for Robinson to have as Fulham V Everton. I can understand why people like to see referees given trial games because it is something different but I don't think it's absolutely necessary. I'm not sure you can learn too much just from one game so if they decide to wait until the end of the season before promoting a few then I don't see any real issue with that.

Those who are already on the SG1 also need to be given something to do and some of them don't get too many appointments as it is.

It's difficult to say with Hooper. I'd be surprised if he was demoted because it hasn't happened to anyone recently. That said, it was suggested in the papers that there were attempts to remove Scott after just one season a few years ago but the correct process wasn't followed so who knows. I certainly think Scott was/is better than Hooper but I tend to think if you thought someone was worth promoting you should persist with them for longer than just one year. (I wouldn't have promoted Hooper in the first place as I've said before but they did so they must have seen something to make them believe it was the correct decision.)

On my own admission thinking aloud but could the team at Brighton be the Cup Final team?

Interesting in that Pawson, who surely is the only other conceivable candidate has a local derby with history involving one of the finalists.

Busy few days for Michael Oliver. Villareal v Valencia on Thursday night, boards at Manchester United on Saturday and Liverpool v Chelsea on Sunday. I'm not convinced they would ask a player to have that itinerary.

I think Brighton v Bournemouth was the intended match unless you are being a bit tongue in cheek!

Since the middle of Feb Hooper has only has 2 middles - 1 Championship and 1 Div 1. In this same period Coote has had 3 PL games and 2 Championship. I think it’s safe to say who is having the better season.
I was sceptical of both getting promoted. I think my concerns about Hooper have been founded and shared by many; however I hold my hands up and say that Coote has more than justified his promotion.

can we now say that hooper is off the select group list for next season this giving coote more prem experience

I'm surprised Robinson was not given a trial game as they might consider him for promotion

I can't see Derek Eaton getting the Final, although I suppose he would have the safety net of VAR. Adam Nunn must be a shoo-in for one of the assistant roles.

Going on appointments throughout the season I’d be extremely shocked if anyone other than Rob Jones joined Andy Madley in being promoted to the SG1 list.

He’s had more TV and derby matches than any other SG2 referee this season.

Robinson appears to have finished the season with a flurry of games but he missed a large chunk of the season and although I rate him as one of the better performers in SG2 he did give a horrific penalty against Rotherham for Derby only a couple of weeks ago. I’d also have Bankes and Brooks ahead of him personally!
