However on Tuesday Dan Cook and Sian Massey-Ellis are back teamed together but with Paul Tierney as referee but why don't they team them together with Chris Kavanagh as that is the normal team

I might be wrong but I don't think Dan Cook can officiate the Manchester teams?

Whilst there are definitely 'normal' teams, there is some variation that can sometimes happen. Mike Dean's regular 4 seem to be Cann, Hussin, Robathan and Scholes for instance.

Good observation, Dan Cook has never officiated in a Man United match but has done three Man City matches in the past.

I am sure Dan Cook has done a Man Utd match at least once either last season or the season before

Re Sian Massey Ellis not working with Chris Kavanagh, I am led to believe that, in general an SG1 Referee will work with a group of ARs
So there may be 2 Referees working with say 6 ARs

Clearly it makes sense if the ARs with a FIFA Referee are also FIFA preferably including his normal ARs

He last officiated Man City on 03/12/2017 and from what I can see has never assisted on a Man Utd match.  He's from the South coast, so at a guess I'd say he has never officiated Man Utd as he supports them, and is now blocked from Man City since PGMOL made the switch from where you live to who you support and presumably their close rivals.

Dean seemed to get the major decisions right as far as I could see.

I thought England had a decent game at Newcastle too and was praised by Sky commentary team. Needs to get more games like Jones, Madley etc.

I also thought England had a decent game, as did Kavanagh in the Manchester derby despite it not being the most challenging. Has anything come out about FIFA nominations for 2021?

They will start becoming public over the next week or 2.  It's around now that FIFA submit the confirmed written lists to the National federations.

I personally didn’t rate Dean yesterday. Ridiculous amount of cards for a game that was far from aggressive.
Only my personal opinion but I don’t think it’s fair that a GK being off the line only matters if the ball doesn’t go in. (Not Dean related )

I wasn’t overly impressed with Dean (albeit from only the highlights!) I thought neither player who was dismissed committed 2 cautionable offences and were therefore unlucky to be dismissed.

On the other hand, Darren England had an excellent match at Newcastle. Calm and authoritative, decisions generally correct including all cautions and match kept well under control.

Herein lies the problem however. Certain referees can have a string of below par performances yet receive PL games more often than not. Other referees, regardless of how well they referee, know that there will likely be a period of weeks before their next one, not allowing them to build up a good run. This is where fresh management of the PGMOL is needed - referees should be selected on a weekly basis by their performances and not simply given games regardless because they have been a PL ref for a long period of time!
