If there is a red level warning the games in that area should be off.  And if referees live in red risk areas they should be taken off games and replacd by other officials, if available.  Red level means warning to life and employers, whether that is EPL or PGMOL, have a duty of care to their employees.

Be amazed if Bournemouth v Forest is on Friday night. Should be called off now rather than Forest fans travelling down motorway in 100mph winds tomorrow.

Whilst the fans are the most important, none of the match officials live any nearer - none of them should be travelling.  Well Gavin Ward lives reasonably close but will himself be close to if not in the red zone.

We are about to be upgraded to a red warning - the match needs calling off now.

“The red warning area indicates a significant danger to life as extremely strong winds provide the potential for damage to structures and flying debris. Although the most exposed coastal areas in the south and west could see gusts in excess of 90mph, winds will remain notably strong further inland, with gusts of between 70-80mph for most within the amber warning area.”  Met office

Could be a tricky Solent crossing for JJ if officials do travel. Do IOW ferries or hovercrafts operate in windy conditions?

Condor and Brittany Ferries both announced yesterday that they would be suspended on Friday morning with some routes cancelled for Friday & Saturday. That's from Poole and Portsmouth. Red Funnel, who operate the Isle of Wight route are still planning to try and maintain the vehicle ferry service but have warned of disruption and delays. The hovercraft is unlikely to operate, the ferries, we will see.  He will have possibly travelled today/this evening to the mainland, he'll be aware more than anyone of expected delays etc. I'm sure the PGMOL would stump up for a hotel for him.

My mate who’s a forest fan is going to the game tonight and is about to set off so looks like the game is going ahead

It’s blowing a real gale in Eastbourne this afternoon.. trees a plenty have fallen.

As for the sea defences.. they’ve failed at Seaford. 😳

Being told different things here. Sky staff at the ground say it's on, a source from a more official role said it's 99% off & just waiting on the epl to sign off on it, so who knows! Shameful there has been no official announcement either way from the EPL, Sky or either club.

The correct decision, however probably could’ve been done a lot earlier.

The transport network is in disarray this afternoon and probably tomorrow too.

It's been fun.  I'd not long tweeted how calm it was in Poole after 2/3 hours of very high winds when there was a tweet showing the RNLI building being absolutely battered and a windspeed of 120mph - I live 500m from said building! The sea has breached in several places here, lots of roads closed, trees and power lines down. Same as everywhere really - thankfully it doesn't appear anyone has been injured or worse.

Our trains and buses were called off hours ago and still not up and running yet. I feel bad for the Forest fans who will have been well into their journeys.  I gather 2 sticking points were sky wanted the game to go on regardless and Nottingham Forest wanted it played tomorrow morning (They & AFCB wanted it off tonight for the obvious reasons).

As an update it has now been confirmed that the Safety Advisory Group (whoever they are) declared Dean Court unsafe for spectators following damage to the stands & roof caused by the storm. Decision on game had to wait for inspections to be completed. No time to make safe. With the continued weather warnings of high wind over the weekend repairs unlikely to start until next week at the earliest.

The EFL have put out a statement to say that they are "extremley disappointed" at the late postponement.  They don't seem to be happy with Bournemouth.

They could have made the decision themselves.  It is extremely rare for there to be red weather warnings, and with the advice being to stay at home they could have just called it off.  It isn't like a normal pitch issue where the referee or a local referee needs to do an inspection, if things are falling off of the stands and there is a safety issue that is nothing to do with the referee.

Yet at 2.20pm they had not signed off on the game being postponed!

An absolute disgrace that it took until mid-afternoon today. Yet another decision taken so late without any consideration for those travelling. Everyone knew what was coming - we had enough warning of such a rare event bringing extreme weather, especially to the South West.

Don't blame them. I'm less bothered by the decision to call it off, it's the lack of communication from Sky, the EPL and both clubs, which has been appalling at best that I'm annoyed about.  Someone should have been updating the local press in Nottingham as well as Bournemouth.  I think we all know if it hadn't have been on Sky it would have been called off yesterday as soon as the red weather warning was issued. Obvious to us locally it was not going to happen by how dangerous the roads were, well those still open! The police were literally begging everyone to stay home. They knew there was damage to the stadium, why not put out a statement saying it needed to be assessed? It would have given people, especially the away fans more information as to whether they were going to risk travelling on dangerous roads.

Our local solent reporter does a little summary here: https://twitter.com/kristemple/status/1494748354185682952

Very reliable is Kris.
