First part I agree. Second part, why shouldn't a referee do both fixtures?

If you go to the "I spy old refs" thread, this was common practise in the post-war years.  It even happened when sides played each other on Christmas Day with the reverse fixture 24 hours later.

Shocking professionalism not to know one of your employees is not in the country when doing the appointments and imo referees should not do the reverse fixture in the same season which happens frequently and is lazy appointing.

Unprofessionalism I would say. It does make one wonder quite how much thought goes into appointments.
