As JP is one of the more articulate referees around these days, I hope he'll find a media position sooner rather than later. Unfortunately he had his own unique style which, whilst creating more enjoyable games to spectate (& probably play in), made him more susceptible to die-hards who don't like personalities. He's not the first (James Jones from Wales a few seasons ago) & he won't be the last. Whether there are "better candidates" depends on whether others might make it onto world rugby listing - JP has been there, done it, & then lost his position almost certainly down to his Irish background and Mr Rolland. Whether Spreaders backed him or sacked him will remain to be seen.
