If I may make a comment, if a football referee made such a mistake there would be ructions, rants and sensational comments. Cricket generally accepts that the officials are human and can make mistakes. Football dismays me in so many ways. New Zealand have come out of this with enormous credit and represent what is claimed to be indefinable - the spirit of the game.
I used to umpire a few cricket games and found it impossible to know if batsmen crossed. Could the umpires have referred to third umpire for clarification or was it a case of give what they saw and do not assume or guess!
