Leinster vs Saracens
« on: Sat 11 May 2019 22:35 »
What an atmosphere! A large number in Irish blue mixed in with the black and red from north London, lightly sprinkled with neutrals from far and wide.
A much more open game than expected, initially dominated by Leinster and in a week of come backs Saracens stormed it. Scoring 10 points in last few minutes of a hard hitting, intense first period changed the momentum and the game.
Jerome Garces did ok. His reading of the breakdown looked a bit hit and miss and I am convinced having made a try saving tackle Liam Williams did not release the player before turning the ball over.
Scrums were a mess and neither side looked confident with his management of them.
Ultimately the stronger team won
A great occasion in a fabulous city
(Roll on Marseille next May 😎)

Missed this one too RCG so thanks for the report.
I get the impression that this wasn’t Garces finest hour but that there was nothing too controversial. Maybe nerves, maybe trying too hard, maybe just an off day which we can all have.
Still think he was the right choice for the game and will have a big part to play in Japan come the autumn.

In the main he did fine, he certainly has the respect of most and has an impish gallic smile which defuses many a situation
Having rewatched the game I think Barratt should have had 10 mins in the bin for an illegal entry and clear out at a ruck
As an England fan I would take Garces over the other French refs
