Allain Rolland leaves job at World Rugby
« on: Wed 15 Jul 2020 07:05 »
It has been announced that Rolland will leave his position as (effectively) head of referees at the end of this month.
I believe he has done a very good job, identifying potential, getting them experience and using them at top level, including the WC.
A great ref, lovely man, I wish him well on the next stage of his journey.

It sounds like he would be an excellent replacement for a certain someone at PGMOL!!!

On a serious note, good luck to him in whatever he chooses to do next

Maybe, just maybe, someone from outside football to succeed Mike Riley is not as ridiculous as it at first sounds. After all, Messrs Don, Hackett and Riley, as former leading football referees, have not exactly been huge successes in the job, so perhaps someone with a proven track record as a referee manager in another sport could bring something different to the role.  Rolland's experience of VAR in rugby would certainly be a plus.

Having said that,  if it was thought to be a step too far, I would go for Howard Webb who always talks a lot of sense or perhaps Alan Wiley as a longshot within PGMOL.

Superb ref who move seamlessly into management and made a great success of it.
Are you watching Mr Riley?
