Presume therefore that one of Hicks and Thaler will get the Grand Final. Hicks had the Challenge Cup Final in August so I hope Thaler gets it as I consider him to be the best RL Ref at present but there have been cases of the same Ref getting both games in past seasons.

Correct. Robert Hicks has the final with Thaler in the TV truck. Suspect we will see both involved when Eng play NZ.

I missed the match but judging by comments on the BBC site and on social media it seems Hicks had something of a nightmare. Can anyone who saw the game confirm or deny this?

I didn't see the match but a friend said that at times it was 'tough and rough'. The incident (shown this morning on TV) at the tunnel as the players left the field at halftime seemed to confirm this and was not, I suggest, something we would wish to see at a major sporting occasion
