Chris Kendall has been appointed, Liam Moore as reserve referee and Ben Thaler with the zapper.

Good luck and congratulations

I am sure Kendall had it last year and was less than impressive.
He and Moore seem to be Gansons blue eyed boys at present, with the likes of Hicks, Child and Thaler suddenly being side-lined somewhat.
I understand Moore is 25 and Kendall not much older, so is this a deliberate ploy from Ganson to reduce the age of referees? Experience should still count for a lot.  If this trend continues how long before a 14 year old is appointed to a Wembley Final?

I know it has been a strange year with other leagues/competitions truncated but my observation/concern would be that there appears to be 5 or 6 refs used every week, with an additional 1 or 2. He may have 2 young referees but lacks strength in depth or healthy competition

It's a feature of rugby league (both in England & Australia) that the top-rated referees dominate the end of season play offs. There's no hesitation in appointing in-form officials to sequential games involving the same teams, something which football doesn't appear to consider in domestic leagues or international competitions. Both Chris Kendall & Liam Moore have been impressive this season & others (such as Hicks, Thaler & Child) haven't quite matched them. As for whether Moore would "do the double" having refereed the Challenge Cup Final this season, I reckon Kendall just nicked it because he refereed St Helens v Wigan in an outstanding league match a few weeks ago - both Kendall & Moore appear to have a good rapport with the majority of players. The game should be much closer than either of the SFs & hopefully there'll be no negative mentions of the officials post-match. Gerard Sutton refereed all 3 State of Origin matches in Australia as well as the Grand Final - there are other equally good NRL referees, such as Klein, but if someone is in form then s/he gets the nod. The RL World Cup next year will see similar appointments in the knock-out rounds & if that means appointing an Australian to game(s) involving Australia or an Englishman to game(s) involving England that'll happen.
